The Call of Duty franchise continues to introduce a wealth of new experiences into its multiplayer offerings.

As attention moves towards the launch of Modern Warfare 3, some players are wondering if there are plans to support game modes that made their debut during the Modern Warfare 2 cycle.

In late 2022, Infinity Ward launched DMZ, a new extraction mode that remains a popular alternative to multiplayer and Warzone's battle royale offering. Ahead of Call of Duty Next, Activision has shared what the future holds for the mode and whether the servers will remain on when Sledgehammer Games' latest project launches.

Call of Duty DMZ future plans

On October 2, 2023, the Call of Duty X account revealed its plans for DMZ after revealing there are no plans to showcase the extraction mode at Call of Duty Next.

The post reads: "We're excited to share that we will continue to support the DMZ Beta. Thank you for your continued support and dedication to the Beta!" DMZ fans were quick to share their excitement about the news. One player says: "This is great news!"

On the other hand, there are some who believe the lack of new information marks the beginning of the end for DMZ. One player thinks: "This is as close as we're going to get as an admission that the mode won't be getting any new content."

While players will still have the option to play DMZ during the Modern Warfare 3 cycle, it's unclear if the mode will still remain popular as the majority load into the new release.

It's great to see DMZ remaining but with a new chapter of multiplayer and battle royale content on the horizon, will Infinity Ward switch its priorities and leave the mode? Only time will tell.
