Lionel Messi (94>95)

It was another successful year for Lionel Messi as he firmly put his closest rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, in the dust statistically speaking

The Argentinian bagged 51 goals for Barcelona last season, improving on his tally from last season by six, as well as assisting 13 times in the league. If that isn’t impressive, he doubled his tally in the Champions League from the previous season (scoring 12 goals). His successful season led to a La Liga title and a runners up medal in the Copa del Ray.

We have already predicted Ronaldo to receive a downgrade, would it be possible to see such a significant difference in their ratings?

Eden Hazard (91>93)

Hazard’s stint at Chelsea finally comes to an end and he went out in style, with a Europa League trophy.

The Belgian put on a career best with 16 goals and 15 assists last season, it is a worry where Chelsea would have ended up in the league without him. Despite not scoring as many in the Europa League, he earned the man of the match award in the final with 2 goals and an assist.

His recent switch to Real Madrid will only help his case in being considered one of the best players in the world.

Kalidou Koulibaly (87>89)

It was another great season for the Senegalese, with Napoli finishing second in Serie A - he received three in forms as well as a place in the team of the season.

Due to his rock solid defending, Napoli only conceded 36 goals in the league last season; in total they kept 14 clean sheets. Napoli also made it to the quarter-finals of the Europa League and the Coppa Italia.

His rating could jump even further if somebody was to tempt him into a move away from the Italian side.

Virgil Van Dijk (85>90)

Touted as one of the best centre backs in the world at the start of the season, the Dutch defender certainly proved it by the end.

With just 22 league goals conceded, it meant that Liverpool kept 20 clean sheets and lost only one game. Despite losing the league by one point, he was voted the PFA Players’ Player of the Year. Liverpool also ended their season by winning the Champions League against Tottenham Hotspur.

His appearance in the UEFA Nations League final only further supports his case to receive a significant upgrade.

Marco Reus (85>89)

It was a brilliant individual season from Marco Reus, the only thing that was missing was the silverware to go with it.

The German pulled off his highest league goal tally of 17, which meant he was tied for 3rd place in the golden boot race, accompanying this with 8 assists. Unfortunately, Borussia Dortmund fell short of the Bundesliga title by two points.

Despite not having any silverware to show for his performances, he did receive three player of the month awards last season.

Raheem Sterling (85>89)

Raheem Sterling’s form played a huge part in Man City’s historic domestic treble.

Despite Sterling falling short of his previous year's stats in the league, he did score more goals across all competitions - 25 in 51 games to be specific. His performance also awarded him three informs, a player of the month trophy and the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

When you take this into consideration, as well as his semi-final appearance in the UEFA Nations League, he’s destined for a hefty upgrade.

Kylian Mbappe (87>92)

The young superstar hit a new gear last season and has continued to improve as an individual.

After 43 appearances, Mbappe scored 39 goals; 33 came in the league making him the top goalscorer for Ligue 1. PSG once again claimed the league title in style and with it Mbappe won both the Ligue 1 Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year awards.

The performances he is currently serving up is worthy of being one of the best rated players in FIFA 20.

Sadio Mane (86>88)

An often overlooked component to Liverpool’s incredible season, Sadio Mane achieved his best season yet.

The Senegalese player shared the league top goalscorer accolade with two other players (scoring 22 goals), as Liverpool fell short of the title by just one point. Despite this disappointment, his season was lifted by their victory in the Champions League final.

On average last season, he scored a goal every two games across all competitions.

Heung Min Son (84>86)

Son has once again proven his pedigree, he was instrumental in Tottneham’s season.

Despite not receiving any silverware this season, Tottenham made it all the way to the Champions League final. He scored 20 goals in all competitions, 12 in the league paired with 6 assists, meant Spurs once again secured Champions League football.

His flexibility to play multiple positions only strengthens his case to receive an upgrade.

Alisson (85>88)

His debut season at Liverpool proved to be a successful one as he finished it with silverware.

Last season, his incredible efforts saw Liverpool win the Champions League and finish second in the league. Alisson only conceded 22 goals in the league last season and kept 21 clean sheets.

It’s hard to imagine the Brazilian not getting rewarded for a great shift between the sticks.
