Fallout 76: Gold bullion and treasury notes in Wastelanders

Warning: Wastelanders main-quest spoilers follow.

In Fallout 76, gold bullion is a special currency you unlock after a certain point in the story. Once you’ve finished the primary story quest in Wastelanders, you’ll be given access to it.

These are ingots of 24-karat gold leftover from before the Great War.

Secrets Revealed” is the name of the final quest line in Fallout 76: Wastelanders, and it’s here where you’ll get your hands on that sweet golden treasure everybody’s been whispering about throughout Appalachia.

At the end of the quest, you’ll discover 1,000 gold bullion stored inside Vault 79, at which point one of the two faction leaders — Paige (settlers) or Meg (raiders) — will arrive to collect a cut of the treasure.

You can either choose to pay 500 bullion to your faction of choice for maximum reputation (for that particular faction); 250 to each faction for a reputation boost with each one; or simply keep all 1,000 bullion for yourself. This will of course harm your faction rep.

Farming gold bullion and treasury notes

After “Secrets Revealed,” you can use treasury notes to purchase additional gold bullion; there’s a daily limit to how much you can exchange at a time. You can do this using the Gold Press Machines at either Founder’s Hall in Foundation or the Core, located at the Crater.

The exchange rate is 20 treasury notes for 10 gold each, so you should be able to get about 200 gold bullion daily.

To earn additional treasury notes, you’ll want to farm medium-difficulty public events like “Heart of the Swamp.” You’ll get up to two or three notes for completion.

Knock out daily missions — one for each faction — to earn additional treasury notes at a rate of three per completion.

The Wayward, the bar from the start of the Wastelanders quest line (south of Vault 76), offers one last method of earning gold bullion. Here, you can trade Smiley 1,000 caps for 50 gold bullion; 6,000 caps will get you a maximum of 300 bullion.

Smiley’s inventory will reset each Monday — once per week.

Gold bullion can be spent at three merchants: Regs (at Vault 79), Samuel (at Foundation), and Mortimer (the Mister Handy bot found in the Crater Core).

If it’s been a while since you’ve logged into Fallout 76, you can probably grab a handful of free items from the Atomic Shop right now — the “Platinum” icon, the “So sorry” emote, a Pioneer Scouts poster, a Vault-Tec duffel bag. It’s worth checking the in-game store periodically for similar freebies.

Fallout season two ends on or around Tuesday, November 24.
