The first day of the DOTA 2 WePlay AniMajor Playoffs has already commenced where the surviving teams from the Group Stages, as well as the top-seeded teams from all regions will now battle it out to determine who will be the AniMajor champion.
T1 vs Team Aster
The first match of the playoffs featured SEA’s top team T1 who went head-to-head against China’s number one ranked Team Aster.
The latter was considered as the favorites in this match, but T1 turned the tables and pulled a 2-0 sweep to upset the team from China. Team Aster surrendered in game 2 after 24 minutes of action which won the series for T1.
PSG.LGD vs Alliance
In the second match of the day, PSG.LGD from China took on EU’s number one team Alliance which saw the former dominate over the latter in a staggering 2-0 series sweep.
Game 1 lasted for 33 minutes. The early parts favored the Europeans’ side, but PSG.LGD came back and finished the game with a victory. Game 2 was a different story that saw how the Chinese team dismantled Alliance’s defense all throughout the game, which earned them the 2-0 sweep.
Quincy Crew vs NoPing Esports
The third match of day 1 between NA’s top dog Quincy Crew vs SA’s number one seeded NoPing Esports was supposedly the fourth and last match of the day. However, it went on to happen earlier due to unforeseen circumstances.
Quincy Crew finished game 1 in a dominating fashion after annihilating NoPing Esports in just 20 minutes of action. It is currently the fastest game of the Playoffs so far. But the South Americans pulled off a victory in game 2 and forced a game 3.
Yet even the momentum towards the final game seemed to be favoring NoPing, it was Quincy Crew who had the last laugh and sealed the deal after closing game 3 with a win, and the series 2-1.
Team Nigma vs Virtus.pro
The final match of day 1 saw Team Nigma from EU against Virtus.pro from CIS. It was supposedly the third match, but Team Nigma’s Amer “Miracle” Al-Barkawi suffered from food poisoning which caused the sudden switch between match timeslots.
However, it did not stop him from being one of the best midlaners in AniMajor. He led his team to a dominant 2-0 sweep over Virtus.pro, which some may consider as a ‘miracle’ in its literal sense.
DOTA 2 AniMajor Playoffs Day 1 Aftermath
T1, PSG.LGD, Quincy Crew, and Team Nigma will all advance in the upper bracket semi-finals. It will be Team Nigma vs PSG.LG and T1 vs Quincy Crew which will take place this Friday.
On the other hand, Team Aster, Alliance, NoPing Esports, and Virtus.pro will all go down to the lower bracket. It will be Team Aster vs TNC Predator, Alliance vs Team Spirit, Virtus.pro vs Vici Gaming, and NoPing Esports vs Evil Geniuses. All of the lower bracket matches will take place later.
