Dead By Daylight Reveals First LGBTQIA2+ Character

Players of Dead by Daylight are set to get a deeper look into the backstory of one of their favourite characters, David King, in an upcoming expansion.

Tome 11 of the archives, which is set to arrive on April 28, will see King grapple with personal struggles in his pre-fog life surrounding his identity and sexuality.

This narrative twist is part of a response by Behaviour Interactive to fans’ desires for more representation in the game.

Taking place in a pub, where the quick-tempered character will engage in conversation about his personal life and confront some memories of a past boyfriend, the expansion has been produced in collaboration with GaymerX, a consulting organisation aimed at improving the integration of diversity into games.

“Representation of diversity in entertainment matters, so it was important for us to take time and to surround ourselves with experts in order to do things properly”, said Dave Richard, Dead by Daylight’s Creative Director.

He also added: “We’re very humbled that Dead by Daylight has developed into a space where players from various communities around the world feel free to be themselves.”

“After working with the Dead by Daylight team over the past year on learning best practices and helping them identify spaces in their existing narratives to integrate LGBTQIA2+ stories, we're excited to see the first piece of content become available for players," said Brian Kunde, GaymerX's consulting lead and Operations Director.

Tara Brannigan, the game’s Director of Player Experience, shares a similar view, saying: “Dead by Daylight is a reflection of its community. Our players have expressed the need for better representation, and today our message is that we hear you, and we are excited to bring these stories to life”.

In addition to this positive innovation, the Devotion expansion will also allow players to unlock a swath of new outfits and explore what’s happened to The Observer, who’s apparently abandoned his tower.
