PS5: All Confirmed Backwards Compatible Games


PlayStation 5 details have been shared by Sony as part of a presentation originally scheduled for GDC, but Mark Cerny's discussion about the PS5's backwards compatibility has been a hot topic of debate since.

While Xbox Series X will allow gamers to play titles from the previous three generations of Microsoft hardware, but Sony is approaching things differently.

What Games Are Backwards Compatible On The PS5?

According to the system's architect Mark Cerny, the system will support a host of PlayStation 4 games at launch.

“We recently took a look at the top 100 PlayStation 4 titles as ranked by playtime, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PlayStation 5,” he said.

Unfortunately, the oft-rumoured PlayStation and PlayStation 2 compatibility was not discussed, along with PlayStation 3 (which proves difficult on account of that console's Cell Processor).

Whereas Microsoft is pushing for games to 'just work' on their upcoming console, with minimal developer input, Sony said that each PS4 title needs to be added individually and tested.

Of course, with the rise of PlayStation Now, there's always a chance that a wealth of previous PlayStation titles could be made available for streaming or download further down the line – but this remains to be seen.

As far as the 100 games go, we'd expect the following to make the cut – given their popularity and exclusive nature. These aren't confirmed, though!
