Thanks to its World War 2 setting, the weapons in Call of Duty Vanguard often contain some of the more unique designs. One of those that features an unusual look is the Owen Gun, a submachine gun (SMG) armed with a steady rate of fire and moderate levels of recoil. With Season 1 right around the corner, the Owen Gun could have a resurgence in popularity if Sledgehammer Games issues a dose of weapon tuning.
While the fire rate and recoil are relatively solid, the lack of damage range makes it tricky to deal with any targets in mid-range combat but if you're up close and personal with the opposition regularly, it's very easy to go on a long killstreak using the Owen Gun. To improve its performance even further, we've found the best Owen Gun attachments to use along with the best Owen Gun loadout to dominate Vanguard multiplayer.
How To Unlock the Owen Gun
As the Owen Gun is a part of the Vanguard arsenal that arrived when the game launched, all you need to do to unlock it is to reach Level 29. With the help of Double XP Tokens, this can be done extremely quickly.
The Best Owen Gun Attachments in Vanguard
After trialling and testing several attachments available for the Owen Gun, we eventually settled on this particular combination for the significant accuracy improvements provided.
- Muzzle: No. 3 Rifle Brake
- Optic: Nydar Model 47
- Stock: Gawain H4 Holding
- Underbarrel: M1930 Strife Angled
- Ammo Type: Lengthened
- Rear Grip: Stippled Grip
- Proficiency: Brace
- Kit: Quick
Due to the drawbacks, we've opted without a barrel for this combination of attachments but even without one, the Owen Gun is still lethal in close-quarters combat and much better at longer distances. The Rifle Brake, Folding Stock, and Brace Proficiency ensure you maintain high accuracy levels regardless of the situation while the Quick Kit gives you the chance to navigate the map quickly with a slight increase in sprint speed.
For a boost in damage output, the Lengthened Ammo Type is the perfect addition, giving some additional bullet velocity to maximise the mid-range capabilities.
The Best Owen Gun Loadout in Vanguard
Once the best attachments for the Owen Gun have been selected, the rest of the loadout can also provide some incredibly useful benefits during the course of the match. Everything from choosing the best Perks to selecting the right Equipment and Field Upgrade can often determine if you can deal even more damage with the Owen Gun.
- Perk 1: Ninja
- Perk 2: Radar
- Perk 3: Double Time
Despite having no protection from grenades, we've opted for Ninja as the first Perk to silence footsteps. It can be very easy to hear them in numerous scenarios so without the audio cues, it's easy to move behind the opposition and get away with a few kills before anyone else has the chance to react. For Perk 2, Radar is the pick thanks to its ability to ping unsuppressed gunfire on the minimap.
Last and by no means least is Double Time. With double the length of Tactical Sprint and an increase in crouch movement speed, it's very straightforward to move around the map as fast as possible.
- Lethal: Thermite
- Tactical: No 69 Stun Grenade
Thermite is proving a popular Lethal in Vanguard and it's clear to see why. The short blazing inferno deals huge damage and even if it doesn't kill them, it only takes a couple of shots from the Owen Gun to guarantee the kill. If they attempt to seek cover, quickly follow up with the Stun Grenade to prevent any kind of escape.
- Armor Plates
Additional protection can be the difference between scoring your next Killstreak or taking a look at the killcam. To stay in the fight for longer, Armor Plates absorb torso damage which gives you a huge advantage when attempting to deal with multiple enemies.
Best Owen Gun Blueprint in Vanguard
The Owen Gun has yet to receive any blueprints but Vanguard is still in its early days. As soon as we find the very best blueprint for this underrated SMG, we will update the guide with everything you need to know.
Is The Owen Gun Good in Vanguard?
After using it for a few games, the first few levels of the Owen Gun are rather tedious but once the attachments become available, the SMG can be transformed to suit all styles of play, making it one of the most versatile in the whole category. If you're growing tired of the MP40, I would consider taking the Owen Gun for a spin.
