XM4 Cold War Loadout, Best Attachments, Setup And Class

The XM4 in Black Ops Cold War is arguably one of the most versatile weapons in the entire game thanks to its lethal rate of fire and limitless customisation options. The versatility combined with often unmatched levels of mobility means the weapon makes an appearance in nearly every single multiplayer match.

With Season 6 in full swing, the XM4 is likely to remain a key part of the Cold War meta, despite Treyarch implementing changes to a number of weapons within the ever-changing arsenal. With a range of attachments available in the Gunsmith, it can be tricky to determine the best XM4 attachments to equip.

Here's the best loadout, attachments, and setup for your XM4 in Black Ops Cold War.

XM4 Assault Rifle Overview

The XM4 is one of the best all-round weapons to use in Black Ops Cold War. Featuring a strong rate of fire, solid accuracy, and good damage, it's a great rifle to pick up if you're new to the game, or are after a weapon to dominate the opposition.

It won't take much expertise to discover a solid attachment combination, so you won't have to worry too much if you're not running an optimal setup, as it can suit all playstyles.

The Best XM4 League Play Loadout

  • Millstop Reflex (Optic)
  • Infantry Compensator (Muzzle)
  • 13.7" Ranger (Barrel)
  • Field Agent Grip (Underbarrel)
  • Steady Aim Laser (Body)
  • 40 Rnd (Magazine)
  • Airborne Elastic Wrap (Handle)
  • Raider Pad (Stock)

This combination of attachments requires the Gunfighter Wildcard to be equipped. With a total of seven attachments equipped on the XM4, it is one of the most controllable and user-friendly weapons to use in a competitive match.

Whether it's from a distance or up close and personal with an opponent, the fast rate of fire and reduced levels of recoil means you will always have a chance when it comes to entering a gunfight.

XM4 Best Attachments

  • Muzzle Brake 5.56 (Muzzle)
  • 13.7" Extended (Barrel)
  • Foregrip (Underbarrel)
  • Tactical Stock (Stock)
  • Speed Tape (Handle)

While the XM4 is strong, there are rifles that outmatch it at range. With that said, it's a very versatile weapon and by using this setup you should be able to match up at both distance and close range.

In my opinion, you shouldn't need a sight for this weapon as the attachments can be used in other areas that would be more useful; not to mention the fact that the aim assist is very strong.

If you're struggling with the iron sights, you can swap the Tactical Stock or Quickdraw Handle for a sight; I recommend the Millstop Reflex sight.

The XM4 is pretty predictable upwards recoil with these attachments, which can be controlled with Muzzle Brake 5.56 and Foregrip.

You also complement its strong damage and improve its effectiveness at distance thanks to the 13.7" Extended barrel, while the choice of Speed Tape improves aim down sight by 10%.

Finally, adding the Tactical Stock helps you strafe effectively while aiming down sights, making it very easy to duck and dive in and out of cover in order to avoid being eliminated.

Cold War XM4 Loadout

Secondary

  • 1911
    • Muzzle Brake .45 APC (Muzzle)
    • 6.54" Paratrooper (Barrel)
    • Steady Aim Laser (Body)
    • 12 RD Speed Mag (Magazine)
    • Quickdraw Handle (Handle)

The sidearm is rarely the star of the show, but the 1911 is great for following up weakened enemies and will give you enough to go on short streaks when overrun.

With a setup like this, you can create a weapon that will compliment the XM4 and provide a reliable back up in any situation.

You can easily swap over to a shotgun if you feel you need it, but combined with the XM4, you shouldn't need to worry about it.

Tactical

  • Stun Grenade

Of the tacticals available, the stun grenade is very effective for checking over ridges and around corners before moving up to a more aggressive position.

Lethal

  • Frag Grenade

Again, the frag grenade is probably the smarter choice in most scenarios.

Field Upgrade

  • Field Mic

The Field Mic is a great combination for the XM4 because you can set it up both aggressively and defensively.

Putting it up against walls will allow you to easily push into hotly contested points, while placing it behind you will give you intel if someone flanks you.

Perks

  • Tactical Mask
  • Flak Jacket
  • Scavenger
  • Tracker
  • Ghost
  • Ninja

With a weapon like this, I don't see the need to use extra attachments.

Due to the versatility of the weapon, it could easily be used for objective game modes such as Domination or Hardpoint.

Tactical Mask and Flak Jacket will turn you into an objective machine, making you resistant to explosives and tacticals.

The XM4 can run through ammo quickly, so having Scavenger makes sense as you'll be looting dead bodies during your massacre.

Wildcard

  • Perk Greed

When weighing up your Wildcard options, the choices are limited when you consider what benefits they offer.

You could try to add more attachments, giving you better hip-fire accuracy, a nice sight and a bigger magazine, but I don't think they're necessary.

Especially on a versatile and solid gun like this, so adding more perks to your loadout is the way to go.

The Best Ways To Play

Thanks to its incredible performances at long distances, the best way to play with the XM4 in hand is to lock down the open areas of the map and pick off anyone that attempts to utilise the area to their advantage.

The majority of maps in Black Ops Cold War feature an array of head-glitches that provide the perfect amount of cover to keep you protected during a gunfight.
