Far Cry, the hit first-person shooter series from Ubisoft, is officially making its way to TV. FX has greenlit a full live-action adaptation of one of the biggest IPs in the games industry, set to premiere on Hulu and Disney+.
The series will be co-created by Noah Hawley, best known for his work on Fargo and the fresh take on the Alien mythos with Alien: Earth. Serving as a showrunner, he will also be accompanied by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and Mythic Quest star, Rob McElhenney.
Rob McElhenney will not only produce the show but will also be part of the first-season cast.
There’s no confirmation if the TV series will be an adaptation of the existing story in the Ubisoft games. However, FX has confirmed that it will follow the same anthology format from the series, with new characters and locales in each season.
Hawley described the project as “a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens.”
“[the Far Cry TV show] doesn’t shy away from the darkest and most absurd parts of humanity,” according to Ubisoft Film & Television's head, Margaret Boykin, in a now-deleted post from a leak months ago. Talks about a Far Cry TV show has been going on for months now, and this official announcement from Ubisoft solidifies its existence.

The show will be available for streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ internationally. Unfortunately, no release date has been announced, and there is no mention of which actor is going to be the first season’s big bad.
The Far Cry series, apart from its stealth-action Assassin’s Creed games, has been Ubisoft’s biggest franchise. Since its release back in 2004, it has sold over 50 million units, according to its September 2019 financial report. Its last mainline entry, Far Cry 6, became the best selling game on Steam in its first month despite the mixed reception from fans and critics.
A seventh mainline entry is rumored to be in development, according to long-standing rumors. It will reportedly take place in Alaska, with a non-linear storyline about saving your kidnapped family.
While Far Cry 7 has not been confirmed yet, fans will rest easy knowing that the upcoming TV show might fill the gaps, assuming it comes out first before the imminent seventh entry.
