- Quick Answer: Ubisoft has restructured its internal teams, elevating Massive Entertainment to oversee major franchises like The Division and Ghost Recon, with the goal of revitalizing them and launching new IPs.
Ubisoft is shaking up its internal structure once again in a move that actually makes a ton of sense for a change. The publisher has officially elevated its "Creative House 2" division, renaming it Massive Entertainment, turning the Swedish studio into a multicontinental endeavor.
Following Christoph Hartmann’s appointment as General Manager earlier this year, development teams across Montréal, Paris, Sweden, and Toronto are now officially operating under the unified Massive Entertainment brand. Massive Entertainment will now be the main force behind franchises like Tom Clancy’s The Division, Ghost Recon, and Splinter Cell, alongside a brand-new original IP: March of Giants.
Hartmann stated:
“Massive Entertainment has always been defined by passion, ambition and incredible talent, and our focus now is on what comes next. Bringing our teams together under one identity gives us the opportunity to combine the creative energy and expertise across Montréal, Paris, Sweden and Toronto to shape the next generation of these iconic franchises.”
This is part of an ongoing strategy within Ubisoft that’s looking to streamline internal management, allowing their big franchises to, hopefully, thrive under less chaotic environments. The restructuring of internal pipelines and broader corporate moves has even led them to a massive (no pun intended) partnership with Tencent; Ubisoft really needs a few reliable heavy-hitters to steady the ship, and it’s clear they can’t rely on Assassin’s Creed to bail them out every time.

Consolidating powerhouse studios to revitalize dead or dormant tentpoles like Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon is what Ubisoft really needs to start doing: a proper, aggressive refocus that fans have been begging for.
Massive remains entirely under the Ubisoft umbrella as publisher and distributor, meaning ongoing commitments to players won't be disrupted. But looking ahead, pooling the technical muscle of their global studios to push proprietary tech and come up with genuinely challenging experiences for dedicated communities sounds like a step in the right direction. Just, please, don't over-Ubify them.
If this unified front finally delivers the Splinter Cell revival we've been starving for, consider me cautiously optimistic. That said, I’d much rather have The Division 3 to fill the void in my heart that Destiny and Bungie have left.
