  • Quick Answer: SEGA has canceled its ambitious 'Super Game' project and is reallocating resources due to underperforming free-to-play titles.

SEGA has cancelled the bizarre Super Game following its slew of free-to-play games-as-service titles underperforming, according to Sega Sammy's latest financial reports.

If you had no idea what the SEGA Super Game even was, basically, everyone in the gaming industry was on the same boat. The gist was, as the name so cleverly implied, it was a game to end all games. You'd need more than three As to describe how big this project would be.

SEGA even partnered with Microsoft back in 2021 to help with the development of the infamous Super Game.

We never really got to see exactly what the game actually was. Mind you, it was slated for a 2026 release, so you can see how its cancellation is anything but surprising. In fact, the PowerPoint presentation shown during the financial report simply and bluntly states: "Decided to cancel Super Game."

It's not all doom and gloom, however. As a result of SEGA titles underperforming in the games-as-service market, they'll be shifting over 100 employees from their GaaS initiative and have them work on more foundational titles for the company.

The company is still working on some heavy hitters coming in the near future. Although most projects have TBD release dates, the company expects RGG's Stranger Than Heaven (the only one with a release window confirmed as this upcoming winter), Atlus' Persona 4 Revival, an Alien: Isolation sequel, and re-imaginings of Jet Set Radio, and Crazy Taxi to perform extremely well for them.
