This article contains SPOILERS for Resident Evil Requiem
Resident Evil Requiem contains a major decision that significantly alters the game's ending: should you destroy or release Elpis? I'll break down what each choice entails.
While RE Requiem follows a single cohesive narrative with no branching paths, the final moments throw players for a loop, as they have the choice to basically alter the fate of the world by choosing to destroy or release the mysterious Elpis project.
Final warning, MAJOR SPOILERS are inbound.
Should You Destroy or Release Elpis In Resident Evil Requiem?
There is technically no wrong answer, but if you want to experience the canon Resident Evil ending, you should release Elpis.
During the final hour of the game, it's revealed that Elpis is not another bioweapon created by Oswell Spencer, but rather the cure to all of the previous ones. His way to atone for all the damage he has caused.
What Happens If You Release Elpis?
Grace learns that Elpis is a cure and realizes that the password to release it is hope. By doing so, you will trigger the canon ending, in which Leon's "umbrella curse" is saved, and you'll fight Victor Gideon, the final boss of the game.
What Happens If You Destroy Elpis?
Destroying Elpis will lead you to a non-canon short ending in which Zeno, one of Albert Wesker's clones, kills Leon Kennedy. There's not much else besides this shocking bit of, luckily, non-canon lore being dropped on players if you choose this ending.
Safe to say that it might take a few by surprise if they didn't pay attention to the story.
