This article contains SPOILERS for Resident Evil Requiem.
Does Leon die in Resident Evil Requiem? That's one of the biggest mysteries that Capcom has been trying to continuously keep under wraps, despite a constant barrage of leaks ruining the experience for some fans.
Leon is, perhaps, the most iconic Resident Evil character of all time. It's no small feat considering that the franchise has birthed some of gaming's most beloved icons. That said, Leon has a special place in the hearts of many fans as it's the character with the most character development in the entire series.
From a rookie out-of-his-depth cop in RE2, to a seasoned one-liner master in RE4, a Michael Bay action-movie star super agent in RE6, and finally, a grizzled veteran in RE9, Leon's been through it all. So, is Requiem Leon Kennedy's final adventure?
Before we begin, beware of MASSIVE SPOILERS for Resident Evil: Requiem down below. This will be your one and only warning.
Does Leon Kennedy Die In Resident Evil 9?
The answer is yes and no. Resident Evil Requiem has two different endings: the canon and the non-canon one. It's very obvious which one's the intended finale, so rest assured, if you're a fan, the continuity the game will follow includes the ending in which Leon does not die.
Resident Evil Requiem Canon Ending
The canon ending sees Grace Ashcroft unleash Elpis. During the final hours of the story, it's revealed that Oswell Spencer's final experiment wasn't another, deadlier virus, but a cure for them all. Elpis, in Greek, is a minor goddess associated with hope.
Spencer's "requiem" is Elpis. Many organizations, like The Connections, believed Elpis to be the greatest bioweapon of them all, allowing them to fundamentally enable mind control rather than suppress any semblance of humanity.
In this ending, Grace gives Leon Kennedy the cure, who then proceeds to defeat Victor Gideon in the game's climactic final boss fight.
Resident Evil Requiem Non-Canon Ending
The RE9 non-canon ending sees Grace actually destroy Elpis, infuriating Zeno, a clone of Wesker. As a result of this decision, he kills Leon in retaliation for Grace's decision.
The ending doesn't get much more than that, as it abruptly ends. By how campy Leon's death is, with such an unceremonious demise to such an icon coming at the hands of a Wesker clone, it's clear this was just a neat bonus ending for people who want to explore a bit of a what-if scenario.
