- Quick Answer: A Dragon-type Eeveelution in Pokémon Winds and Waves would fit the sky and sea traversal themes while revitalizing competitive play.
Pokemon fans around the world are looking forward to 2027, as it'll bring a new mainline game. While there's no specific date or month, the 10th generation entries titled Pokemon Winds and Waves will be enjoyed by everyone on their Nintendo Switch 2 systems.
Ever since the game's announcement trailer, people have been anticipating the day they can be played, as there's a lot to look forward to. Aside from the new Pokemon to catch and fight, there are also new water and sky environments along with potentially interesting methods to traverse them, and those alone have already hyped everyone up.
There are still so many things we don't know, but there's bound to be a lot of surprises, which is why every fan in the world can't wait to get their hands on the game. Considering it's a new generation, many have also speculated that one of the surprises may be a new evolution for the ever-popular Pokemon named Eevee.
It is certainly possible, considering that the last one introduced was Sylveon, which was all the way back in 2013 for Pokemon X and Y. Ever since, no new Eevolutions have been introduced, so when you think about it, there hasn't been one in more than a decade, which is an absurdly long amount of time.
It only makes sense that the 10th generation entry will introduce us to a new one, but if it happens, another question is going to make its way into people's minds: what typing will it have? Considering what's already available, there are still many different choices for the new Eevolution.

I'm a longtime Pokemon fan, and after seeing what Pokemon Winds and Waves has to offer, I think that the typing with the best shot at being Eevee's new evolution is going to be Dragon. Why this and not the other types? Well, one reason is that thematically, it makes the most sense.
If you know what a dragon is, then you understand that they're powerful creatures that reign supreme in the air. Given that the game seems to partially focus on the sky and traversing it, it would be ideal for an Eevolution that takes advantage of that.
Aside from ruling the clouds, dragons are also known for being ferocious creatures of the depths, so it's not too farfetched to think of them as masters of the waters as well. Since Pokemon Winds and Waves will clearly have numerous sections that will take place in the ocean, the possibility of a Dragon-type Eevolution being introduced is more likely than ever.
Also, the setup of the entire game allows for easy ways to introduce how Eevee can transform into its potential new Pokemon evolution. Think of it similarly to the Moss Rock method of obtaining Sylveon back in Diamond and Pearl, but this time it makes more sense than ever.
Considering that both the sky and seas will play a major role in the overall journey, it would be very easy for the game to naturally introduce a way that allows for a new Eevolution. It can come in the form of a specific area where Eevee should fight and level up, or an item that only Eevee can obtain at a certain point in the journey.

In fact, the Dragon-type Eevolution can even be integrated as a major plot point in the overall story. The new form can act as the main Pokemon for traversing both air and water, since it will be good at both. That doesn't have to be the case, given that there could be better candidates for the job. However, it is one of those possibilities that seems highly likely, especially considering how much sense it would make and how nobody would question it if it were to happen.
The final reason why I think the next Eevolution is going the way of a Dragon-type is that it would make for a very interesting competitive monster. In competitive battles, Dragons used to rule as the strongest, and even in single-player mode, they're highly sought after with how they crush anything in their way.
While they still have an impact on both the casual and competitive scenes today, they have significantly fallen off in viability due to the many new ways to counter them. So, Pokemon Winds and Waves could reintroduce Dragons as the fearsome and dominating beings they're expected to be, and a new Eevolution would be a great way to lead the charge.
By next year, we'll see if the 10th generation really does give us a new form for Eevee to transform into, and if so, I'm hoping Nintendo and Game Freak go with Dragon as the typing. Overall, it just feels like that's where the new Eevolution is supposed to go, as not doing so is a huge missed opportunity. As a lover of Pokemon and Eevee, I hope that's the direction it heads, and I think many would graciously welcome it with open arms if it were to happen.
