Pokemon Pokopia has only been out for over a week, and many players, as well as early adopters, have already skimmed through the story and built awe-inspiring utopias that, if seen by someone new to the life simulator, sandbox-building genre, can be quite intimidating or worse, demotivational.

This is what we want to help newcomers with. Removing the feeling of overwhelmingness and helping them enjoy the moment, or at least get their Psyducks in line before spiraling into "Why did I even buy this 70-dollar game?" So if you're still with your copy of Pokemon Pokopia and still haven't lost hope, keep reading and see how you can have fun in an extensive world full of chores and mystery!

What Are Ways To Avoid Feeling Overwhelmed In Pokemon Pokopia?

With a game as expansive, alive, and largely scaled as Pokemon Pokopia, it is easy to see why some players feel overwhelmed when starting this game, but we highly believe that it is also as simple as changing the mindset.

To avoid the feeling of intimidation, players can start by breathing and taking it slow, stop comparing progress, or, for a more technical tip, learn to sort resources. These are just some of the tips we can share, but keep reading as we delve deeper and discover more.

The Pokopia World Is Your Cloyster

One thing to bear in mind when you play Pokopia is that everything you see in the world is basically yours. The flowers by the hill, the land you're stepping on, or the wood just lying around? That is all yours to keep, to build with, or to place somewhere else. Do not feel pressured to create structures that your mind can muster to imagine, because somewhere, a resource you need is just lying around.

In contrast, do not be afraid to destroy or, for a softer term, deconstruct that preset stuff around you as well, as upon crushing or cutting them, they still turn into materials you can use moving forward. So go ahead, build what you want to build and remove those you consider an eyesore. This world is your oyster after all!

You Are Not On A Deadline!

Unless you are in great need to present the entirety of Pokopia to your boss, remember that no one is rushing you to finish the story of Pokemon Pokopia or finish your terraforming. This game, like many other cozy, life-sim games, is a game meant to be taken at the player's pace, no matter how fast or slow. Enjoy every second of it.

Veterans of games like Animal Crossing or Dragon Quest Builders share that they have hundreds, if not thousands, of gameplay hours, and they still visit their creations every now and then. And with how extremely customizable Pokemon Pokopia is, it is bound to be played the same way and loved for the same length of time, maybe even more. So stop looking at the clock and get lost in the moment!

Stop Comparing Your Progress To Others

As mentioned in our intro, many Pokopia players, despite the title's youth, have turned to social media to showcase their constructions, and some are truly great works of art. But don't forget, so are yours! Nobody in this game genre started as the master builders they are today. It all started with a fence, then a house, then a community, until you build a full utopia.

Progress, no matter how small, is still progress, construct-wise or story-wise. If it helps, juggle between the story and your projects in the overworld, just so that while creating your town, you're also getting upgrades or new recipes. Bottom line, beauty is subjective, and Pokopia knows that.

Sort Your Items And Your Habitats

Now, for a more technical tip, it also helps to organize, not only your thoughts, but your resources and habitats as well. There's an item in Pokopia that you can build early (and endlessly if you have the materials) called storage boxes to store your items. Again, you can create multiples of these, and one thing you can do is create a storage box for each type of item (plants, tiles, collectibles, etc)/

Some even create entire buildings or caves just for storing storage boxes. Also, having many habitats to care for can be exhausting, so as a tip, find a huge area in every location as your habitat center so you can sort of flock your Poke-community. Pro Tip: You can also invite your Pokemon buddies to live with you in your houses or constructs you made, so that's also one way of managing your townsfolk!

This article was written as like many others, I am new to this kind of gameplay, and admittedly, felt terrified at the beginning. But taking a deep breath and embracing every little minute of the game made me love it, even when I know that as I play more, the world becomes bigger. I hope that, as you read this, I have shared a newfound appreciation for Pokemon Pokopia!
