  • Primary Subject: Pokémon Legends: Z-A – Mega Dimension DLC
  • Key Update: Maxsoft released a "physical" version of the Mega Dimension DLC on March 19, 2026, which contains a digital download code rather than a physical cartridge.
  • Status: Confirmed (Released in select Southeast Asian regions)
  • Last Verified: March 30, 2026
  • Quick answer: The Mega Dimension physical edition is a "code-in-box" release available in Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, requiring the base game and a matching eShop region.

Pokemon Legends Z-A sold over 5.8 million units in its first week, and two months later, it received its digital DLC titled "Mega Dimension". The DLC gave more story bits, newly-added Pokemon, and overall additional content, albeit some are just an extension of the gameplay found in the base game.

Usually, the Mega Dimension DLC, like other downloadable content released for Pokemon before, is purely digital, so collectors of physical Pokemon games couldn't help but to wish for a tangible copy of the main game with the DLC inside it. Well, did this release answer those wishes? Let's find out.

Did Pokemon Legends Z-A's Mega Dimension DLC Get A Physical Copy?

Technically, the answer is yes, because based on the Facebook announcement made by Maxsoft, an exclusive representative and official distributor of Nintendo products in Southeast Asia, and on their Malaysian Nintendo website, they released a special tangible copy of the Mega Dimension DLC on March 19, 2026, and it contains DLC only. Also, the physical DLC, at least as of now, is only released at select retailers.

But the technicalities surrounding this release may change that answer from yes to no.

Physical, But Not Really?

As mentioned above, Maxsoft recently released a physical, or rather, tangible Mega Dimension DLC, but the caveat is that there's no cartridge to be found inside the physical box. Instead, it will contain a code that can be used to download the digital content on the Nintendo EShop.

Do take note that, unlike prior Pokemon DLC releases like the highly sought-after Pokemon Sword, Shield, Scarlet, and Violet DLC physical copies, where both the main game and the DLC are in the cartridge, this downloadable content can only be used once and will only be linked to a Nintendo single account. So once redeemed, it cannot be used by other players. And that's that deal-breaking catch, pun intended.

So yes, collectors of physical Pokemon items will be glad to be able to put the DLC's case on their shelf alongside their other Pokemon titles to flex, but once used, that box is nothing more than an empty plastic shell of unusable code. Can't be shared or lent to anyone else.

Another thing that doesn't help the hype of this announcement is that it only released and the code can only be redeemed in Southeast Asian countries, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand, to be specific. So if you don't live in these countries, your best bet in securing a copy is by looking online and ordering via shipping. There have been no announcements made for a worldwide release yet.

Also, if you're able to secure a copy, you have to set your Nintendo EShop region to the aforementioned Southeast Asian countries for the DLC to be recognized and run. The conditions keep stacking, and the public isn't too glad about it either.

How Did The Public Take The Announcement?

Needless to say, given that this is a code-in-the-box situation, people were not pleased, as it seemed to be an unnecessary purchase on top of it being a challenge to get a copy. Some pointed out that since they've already bought the digital copy on its official release, this purchase seems pointless because, really, they'll only be buying the box.

Others have also pointed out that since this is digital-only content, there will come a time when the EShop servers are down, this purchase also loses its permanence because it cannot be re-downloaded. On a positive note, others found this to be a good thing for parents or older relatives being able to give something physical to their gamer loved ones, even if the content is purely digital, as a gift.

If you are interested in getting a copy of this physical DLC, it is important to ensure that you already own the base Pokemon Legends Z-A or Pokemon Legends Z-A Nintendo Switch 2 Edition game, either physical or digital, because, as mentioned multiple times, this box only contains a code for the DLC, and the main game is not included.

Bottom line, this "physical" release of the Mega Dimension DLC is having a hard time deciding if it wants to be a collector's item or a convenience novelty. It offers the prestige of holding something tangible, but risks the security of long-term ownership and the flexibility that only physical cartridges can offer.

Whether it's worth buying or not really depends on how much one loves Pokemon to purchase a box for display or how much rush one is in to buy a child, a niece or nephew, something physical and something Pokemon, as a gift that most likely needs to be shipped first.
