New Halo Leak Suggests PlayStation Debut Is Closer Than Ever

As one of Xbox’s most iconic franchises, Halo’s core games and side entries have traditionally been kept inside Microsoft’s domain.

That exclusivity run is being put to the test after a new revelation by respected dataminer grunt.api, who previously predicted Halo Infinite’s multiplayer launch with accuracy.

While digging through Halo’s backend API, grunt.api found references to a new Halo entry with PlayStation 5 support, along with PlayFab data, Microsoft’s cross-platform service that handles shared progression, matchmaking, and unified online features.

At least two other listings were uncovered, one appearing to be for a beta build and the other likely for the full release.

It’s thought that the beta is connected to the same project and will be released prior to the full game.

Which Halo Title Might Be Headed to PS5?

Speculation is growing that the game is Project Ekur, a rumored multiplayer Halo title at Certain Affinity believed to have evolved from the canceled Project Tatanka battle royale.

Community chatter claims the project is built in Unreal Engine 5, which could make multi-platform deployment easier than older Halo titles.

Some fans are still holding out for The Master Chief Collection, but grunt.api has shut down those hopes, pointing to the technical hurdles in bringing it to PlayStation, given how it was originally developed.

Another candidate is a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, reflecting Microsoft’s pattern of releasing single-game remakes like Gears of War: Reloaded instead of entire collections.

Halo Infinite is still possible due to its ongoing multiplayer support, but most signs indicate a new project.

Is PlayStation the Only New Platform in the Leak?

Interestingly, no evidence was found for a Nintendo Switch 2 version, making PlayStation the only non-Xbox platform currently tied to this datamine.

For PlayStation fans, this leak is the clearest sign yet that Microsoft may finally be opening Halo up to a wider audience.

PlayFab integration suggests the game will launch with cross-play and shared progression across Xbox, PC, and PlayStation.

Even with the growing pile of evidence, Microsoft, 343 Industries, and Sony have yet to make anything official.

Until confirmation arrives at Gamescom 2025 or during the Halo World Championship in October, this remains an exciting but unverified development.

Whether it’s Project Ekur, a CE remake, or another project, Halo launching on PlayStation would be a milestone for the brand.
