Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds is already shaping up to be a massive game, but it could always use more monsters. With upcoming Title Updates teasing new additions, including the Final Fantasy XIV crossover hunt with Omega Planetes, many in the community are already wondering which Elder Dragon will finally make its debut, given Wilds’ noticeable lack of one.

Here are my picks for Elder Dragons that would fit perfectly into Monster Hunter Wilds’ Forbidden Lands.

Gogmazios

Gogmazios is a perfect fit in Wilds.

A clear and obvious choice. Gogmazios is a massive dragon capable of sheer destruction, thanks to its tar-covered body and devastating laser beam. It would be a perfect fit for the game’s Oilwell Basin, a once-prosperous forge from the old civilization of Wyveria.

The Oilwell Basin would serve as Gogmazios’ sanctuary, its oil and silts making the ideal arena for this destructive Elder Dragon. The good news is that leaks have already revealed Gogmazios within the in-game files, so it’s only a matter of time before Capcom adds it in a future Title Update.

Namielle

The master of the torrent.

The master of torrents would be an excellent addition to the Scarlet Forest map. This stunning Elder Dragon was a personal favorite of mine in Iceborne and easily one of the most challenging when fought in its Arch-Tempered form.

Namielle is essentially a Water Elder Dragon, but not entirely. It can supercharge its body to conduct electricity, which makes sense given its eel- or comb jelly-inspired design. On top of that, its bioluminescent body glows brilliantly when enraged, making it both terrifying and beautiful to behold.

Shagaru Magala

That's an Elder Dragon.

If there is Gore Magala, there has to be Shagaru Magala. For context, Gore Magala is essentially the “juvenile” form of Shagaru Magala, eventually evolving into it over time. Wherever Gore appears, Shagaru usually follows, which makes its absence in Wilds’ roster all the more perplexing.

Unlike Gore, which thrives on spreading Frenzy, Shagaru is a divine and fully evolved being that unleashes devastating Frenzy virus explosions and even wields a powerful laser attack.

There are theories that Zoh Shia’s presence has halted Gore’s evolution, or that an even larger threat is preventing Shagaru’s appearance. For now, all we can hope is that this final form of Gore Magala makes its way into a future Title Update.

Velkhana

The Iceborne Queen

The Iceborne Queen herself would be right at home in Wilds’ expanding roster. Velkhana would fit perfectly into the Iceshard Cliffs, a biome defined by its brutal cold.

Velkhana’s arrival would make Wilds significantly more dangerous, conjuring icicles and unleashing powerful ice damage against hunters who are not prepared with Ice Resistance. Its icy armor would demand patience and skill to overcome, but once it shatters, the opening is perfect for punishing blows from Hammers and Great Swords.

Fatalis

Fatalis.

It goes without saying that Fatalis is a fan favorite in the Monster Hunter community, its very presence heralding the end of days. In past entries, including Iceborne, it has served as the ultimate superboss, pushing even the most skilled hunters to their limits.

Fatalis feels almost too powerful for the series, as though it wandered in from Dragon’s Dogma, ready to incinerate hunters with its fire-breathing devastation. Beyond its power, Fatalis also carries weight in the lore, with Zoh Shia, the Wyverian construct, said to be created from the blood of multiple Elder Dragons, including Fatalis itself.

The community has long speculated about its return, and while nothing has been confirmed, many hope Capcom is saving this apocalyptic dragon for the climax of Wilds’ update cycle.

Of course, there are other Elder Dragons that could also work well, such as Jhen Mohran in the Windward Plains or even Dalamadur. But these five stand out as the most likely candidates to appear in Monster Hunter Wilds in the future.
