Microsoft is increasing the price of its Xbox hardware for the second time in 2025. Starting October 3, the cheapest entry price to get yourself into the Xbox console ecosystem will be $400.
The company issued a statement on September 19 explaining that due to “changes in the macroeconomic environment” in the United States, they will be increasing the prices of both the Series S and Series X consoles once again. Microsoft confirmed that these price hikes only apply to the United States, with costs in other markets remaining the same for the time being. Furthermore, peripherals such as controllers and headsets will not receive a price increase.
As mentioned, this is the second price increase Microsoft has applied to its Xbox hardware this year. The first came in May 2025, when the 512GB Series S was priced at $379.99 and the Series X at $600. Accessories did receive a price increase as well, with standard controllers now retailing for $65, for example.
What Are The New Xbox Prices In 2025?
These prices will take effect this upcoming October 3 and have been provided by Microsoft directly as the suggested retailer pricing (SRP). To reiterate, this second wave of price hikes only applies to the United States:
- Xbox Series S 512GB: $399.99
- Xbox Series S 1TB: $449.99
- Xbox Series X Digital: $599.99
- Xbox Series X: $649.99
- Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition: $799.99
Xbox isn’t the only company that’s handed price increases to consumers amid a new economic reality that’s slowly setting in. Sony’s PlayStation 5 also got a bump back in August, with the cheapest one retailing for $499.99 (the digital, discless version).
In hindsight, Nintendo launching the Switch 2 with a hefty $450 price tag doesn’t look as bad. In fact, it’s possible the company knew the trends yet to come and now makes the hybrid console look like a more enticing deal as months go by.
