Sony Santa Monica’s Reboot of the beloved God of War games is facing a plagiarism issue after a 2024 Indian movie copied an entire action sequence straight from the hit PlayStation title.
The animated Indian film, Mahavatar Narsimha, is based on the ten avatars of Vishnu, and part of India’s Mahavatar Cinematic Universe.
The action sequence in question was a literal 1:1 copy and paste. X user @BT_BlackThunder posted a 19-second clip highlighting the similarities. In one scene, Kratos and Baldur fight for the first time in the game’s early hours. In the other, characters from Mahavatar Narsimha duel in a palace.

“Flow by flow, bar for bar,” the gaming community joked in the comments. It’s exactly the same moveset shown in the 2018 Game of the Year hit, down to the tiniest details like being flung into the air and ripping a tree out to use as a weapon.
This bizarre moment was largely caused by Mahavatar Narsimha’s recent Netflix distribution, which attracted a sizeable audience compared to its limited release when it first debuted at the International Film Festival of India back in 2024.
There’s no proof whether or not this is an intentional copy-and-paste moment from the movie’s animators, but the fact that no staff member voiced out this glaring plagiarism feels odd. Someone is definitely a big fan of the Kratos and Baldur fight in the film team. Taking heavy inspiration from the game’s cutscenes is one thing, but copying a 19-second sequence with the same angle, details, and movement? That’s a bit low.

This alleged plagiarism only proves that God of War (2018)’s spirit still lingers 7 years after its release. It’s been hailed as one of the best games in the market, partly due to its rebranding of Kratos’ character. From a warmongering demigod to a caring father, Kratos' adventures with his boy, Atreus, have resonated well with his audience, proving that a video game character can still grow and redeem himself.
Mahavatar Narsimha, on the other hand, is a fresh Indian cinematic franchise that likely takes inspiration from Western success. It generally received positive reviews, with more movies based on the other avatars of Vishnu. The next movie in their pipeline is Parshuram, the 6th Avatar, which is slated to come out in 2027.
Maybe we could see another copy-and-paste sequence in the next movie? Maybe from Thor and Kratos’ epic battle in the first few minutes of God of War: Ragnarok?
