Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally here, and despite almost breaking the internet, players are already having the time of their lives exploring the mysterious kingdom of Pharloom as Hornet. There are still plenty of things to get used to, such as the new movement options and Hornet’s signature abilities, which make exploration all the more important.
One quest you’ll want to prioritize is the Volatile Flintbeetles quest, as it rewards you with a Memory Locket. This upgrade allows you to enhance your Crest and gain an extra slot for equipping Charms.
You can pick up this quest at the Wishing Well in Bone Bottom. The quest will only appear after making it to Greymoor.
Volatile Flintbeetles Quest
This quest tasks you with slaying three Flintbeetles to collect their Flintgems in The Marrow. While it sounds like a simple fetch quest, the real challenge is tracking them down. You do not want to waste an hour backtracking across the map trying to find them.
To locate the Flintbeetles, you can either track the scattered Flintgem shards on the ground, similar to Witcher 3’s Geralt of Rivia, or head straight to their known locations. Here’s where you’ll find all three:
Location 1
The first Flintbeetle is easy to find, as you can track its trail on the left side of the Bench in the southern part of The Marrow. Simply use “Track” and it will lead you straight to it.
Keep in mind that Flintbeetles are dangerous enemies. They leave a trail of exploding rocks, so make sure to keep moving. Hornet’s Pogo mechanic is essential here for avoiding damage.
Location 2
The second Flintbeetle is located in the northeast section of The Marrow. Head to the marked spot on the map, and you will find it there. Strike its exposed body to trigger the fight.
Location 3
The final Flintbeetle is at the northernmost part of The Marrow, right at the top of the map. This area is filled with spikes and flying enemies, so proceed with caution.
Once you have defeated all three, head back to Bone Bottom using the fast-travel Bellways and claim your Memory Locket.
