After breaking the internet for almost six hours, Hollow Knight: Silksong is finally here. Over 500,000 Steam players are already diving into the game on launch day, and there are likely even more across other platforms like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.

If you’re here, that probably means you’re stuck on one tricky side quest that doesn’t seem to make much sense: the Flexile Spines quest.

Drifter's Cloak!

This quest is part of the main story and is a required step to unlock the Drifter’s Cloak ability. The cloak lets Hornet float mid-air using her red mantle and reach higher elevations through air vents.

To craft the Drifter’s Cloak, players must fulfill the Seamstress’ request, which involves collecting 25 Spine Cores from Hokers. But what exactly are Hokers, and what is a Spine Core?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Hokers and Spikes.

Hokers are common enemies in Silksong, located in the far-right section of the Far Fields, just beyond the Seamstress’ house. Once you accept her quest, step outside and head right to find them.

Hokers are round creatures covered in spikes. When attacked, they shoot out four to six spikes, and upon death, they explode while releasing even more. This design is intentional, since those spikes are exactly what you need.

Just hit the spikes.

A common mistake is thinking you need to kill Hokers to obtain their Spine Cores. That isn’t the case. Instead, you only need to bait them into firing their spikes. Then, strike the fallen spikes with your weapon to collect them.

When a Hoker spits out four or five spikes, approach where they landed and hit them with Hornet's Needle. It’s simpler than it sounds.

If you accidentally clear all the Hokers in the area, leave the zone and return. Their respawn rate is very fast for this quest, so you won’t have to wait long.

Once you’ve gathered 25 Spine Cores, return to the Seamstress. She will reward you with the Drifter’s Cloak, giving Hornet a crucial mobility upgrade that makes her much more agile.
