Fans are canceling their Ghost of Yotei pre-orders after one of Sucker Punch’s senior developers celebrated the recent death of right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk. The PlayStation exclusive could be in some serious trouble after this, as fan anger has reached multiple posts surrounding Sucker Punch’s open-world samurai game. While its release is just under a month away, some players are standing their ground and refusing to pick it up.

Charlie Kirk, who has been a controversial figure over the past few years, was fatally shot during his ongoing “Prove Me Wrong” tour in the United States.

On BlueSky, a senior staff member from Sucker Punch going by “Drew” posted, “I hope the shooter’s name is Mario so that Luigi knows his bro got his back.” This is referring to Kirk’s shooter and Luigi Mangione, who shot the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. While many are split on how they feel about Kirk and his beliefs, plenty think that the developer’s comments are insensitive and disrespectful.

The anger fans feel has reached numerous social media posts about Ghost of Yotei, including a beer collaboration with Sapporo and a short 14-second clip of the game. Many of these fans are loudly proclaiming how they’re going to cancel their pre-orders, seemingly not caring about its potential quality. Gamers don’t like the senior developers posts about a man’s death, hence, this boycott.

Only time will tell if this boycott is going to affect Ghost of Yotei's release, currently scheduled for October 2, 2025.
