Hades 2: Apollo Gives the Best Boons and Nobody Else Comes Close

Many consider Hades 2 to be more enjoyable than its predecessor, but regardless of how fun it is, the fact is that it's also harder. Thankfully, Supergiant Games has provided players with enough tools to overcome the challenge, and one of them is a more expansive list of Boons.

The sequel certainly has more to offer than the original Hades in terms of power-ups, but because there are so many choices, a common question is which among the Gods provides the best ones? I have made many runs since the game's 1.0 release, and I can say with confidence that, among the choices, Apollo outshines them all.

Some would argue that it's actually Aphrodite, Hera, or even Selene, given how much of an effect they can have during runs, although they don't come close to the utility the God of Light brings. But what is it about him that makes him so good? To start, he provides an amazing Cast effect that makes Magick a non-issue.

When playing Hades 2, players are incentivized to make use of the Omega moves, as they are substantially stronger and can change the tide of any battle. The only problem is that they require Magick to dish out, and that resource can get depleted rather quickly. That worry is virtually non-existent with Apollo's Lucid Gain Boon, which restores Magick when one's Cast expires, allowing you to spam Omega moves like no tomorrow.

Another reason why Apollo is the best is his Nova Strike Boon, which essentially makes regular attacks cover a wider area and gives them a power boost. As simple as this may sound, it's actually amazing how it turns every weapon, from the Witch's Staff to the Moonstone Axe, into deadly tools of destruction. Also, the upgrade allows you to maintain safer distances from enemies while dealing damage to them, which is perfect for guaranteeing a successful run.

And the final reason why I believe Apollo is the best provider of upgrades is that he gifts players with the almighty Exceptional Talent Boon. What it does is that it makes players' Omega attack and special moves fire twice at the cost of 20 Magick per use, and that alone makes runs through either the Surface or Underworld a breeze.

While the cost seems like a lot, it's offset by the Lucid Gain move mentioned earlier, which means players can dish out a lot of damage with reckless abandon. Pair that up with something like the Witch's Staff's Mirrored Thrasher Daeadalus Boon, which allows attacks to hit twice, and you'll see just how fast an enemy's health bar can go down.

As I mentioned earlier, I have completed many runs in Hades 2, and Apollo is mainly the reason why I was able to do so without barely breaking a sweat. So, for those of you who are having trouble with the game, I urge you to aim for the God of Light as soon as you see him as an option, as his Boons are objectively better than the other Gods at ensuring your victory.
