Pokemon Pokopia, released this past March 05, 2026, being a completely fresh take on the Pokemon universe, it is entirely natural for new players to not know everything from the get-go.
Even the biggest Pokemon fans, given Pokemon Pokopia's unique gameplay in contrast to its sibling titles, will need a bit of an adjustment period before one can say that even in this cutesy spin-off, they are a Pokemon master.
So to help everyone who's now just getting into Pokemon Pokopia, we have compiled a list of early game tips and tricks to make the start of your new Ditto adventure a bit easier and, of course, more fun!
Pokemon Pokopia Beginner Tips To Keep In Mind
Pokemon Pokopia is a game of great scale, but our first steps are only as important as our last, so the early game tips could be endless, but some of the most notable ones are playing with your settings to your play style, paying attention to the offers of the Pokemon PC, taking advantage of the Switch 2's mouse mode, and more!

Everything You See In The Game Is Basically Yours

I'm almost paraphrasing that iconic Lion King line there, but it is actually true. Everything you see in the overworld, like the pre-loaded fences, the trees, and the plants, is yours to take and use for later. Heck, even the various land types you step on, upon getting the ability to crush blocks, are yours to use should you need it in the future or to terraform.
So our first tip is to not worry about losing or overusing resources to build your dream Pokemon utopia, whatever it may look like. Everything in the game is highly sustainable, and the map is huge, so enjoy!
Always Check The Pokemon PC For Useful Items

At a very early stage of the game, you get introduced to Pokemon PCs or computers. A Pokemon PC will allow you to check online gifts, take on rewarding challenges, and buy useful items. Some of the most helpful early-game items you can buy are the Packing Tips (Rookie), which allows you to expand your bag to hold 10 more items.
There's also the Handy Bag item, which adds another 10 item slots to your bag but keeps them separate from the rest, creating a "favorites" pocket that's not only helpful but also very convenient. But those are just the tip of the iceberg of useful items, so keep checking for new ones.
Headbutt Trees More Than Once

Trees in Pokemon Pokopia are as important, to some extent even more so, as trees in real life. Trees in the game allow players to headbutt them and pick up Leppa berries, which replenishes your PP and do basically more things. But if it isn't obvious yet, you can headbutt trees twice and get more rewards.
The first headbutt you make rewards you with 2 to 3 Leppa Berries, but the second time, it will make leaves or wood drop. Yes, leaves or wood aren't the rarest items in Pokopia, but there's nothing to lose by having more, as you can use these as materials in building more helpful stuff like furniture.
Customize Your Game Settings

With a game as extensive and exciting as Pokemon Pokopia, this is one of the most commonly overlooked things that players forget to do before starting their video games. The gameplay settings of Pokemon Pokopia range from changing text speed, adjusting camera height and speed, and isolating volume levels.
You can also interchange the Jump / Run button depending on which button combination you're more comfortable with, and being able to fully customize your move wheel. So go ahead, press the (+) button and adjust your play style to your liking,
Utilize The Mouse Mode

One benefit that comes with having a Nintendo Switch 2 is the ability to use your Joy-Cons as a mouse peripheral. There have not been many games, as of late, that haven't fully taken advantage of this feature, until the release of Pokemon Pokopia.
Terraforming in Pokemon Pokopia using the face and shoulder buttons isn't the most tedious thing in the world but using the mouse mode to remodel your surroundings is one of the most satisfying activities in this title. It's very quick, seamless, and can easily reach blocks you normally need to go nearer to when not in mouse mode.
Take Your Time

We know that may be one of the most cliche tip you'll ever hear, but we cannot stress this enough. Games like Pokemon Pokopia, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft are made to induce the least amount of pressure and for players to play the game how they like, at the pace that they like.
Do not rush finishing the story or stress yourself looking for materials to finish your masterpiece, as the game gives everything you need eventually.
Pokemon Pokopia is technically only a few days old, and it's not in a rush to be perfect. So should your experience. We hope the above tips and tricks will be of help and make your first Ditto steps more memorable.
