Monster Hunter Wilds Title Update 4 arrives this December 16, bringing the terrifying Gogmazios into the Forbidden Lands. As the first Elder Dragon to appear in Wilds, there is no doubt that this monster will be a formidable foe, even more so to the unprepared hunters.
We prepared a guide to increase your chances of slaying the Giant Halberd Dragon. This is no guarantee for victory, but at least you will be well-stocked for Monster Hunter Wilds’ biggest raid yet.
Reach Hunter Level 100 to Unlock Gogmazios Hunt

The first order of business is reaching Hunter Level 100. Players who have been around since launch don’t need to worry about this anymore, as most of them are already close to max HR. New players, however, will need to hit HR 100 to join the Gogmazios raid.
Completing 9-Star monster hunts and taking on event quests that reward extra Hunter Points are your best options. It’s not a particularly hard task, since all you really need to do is play the game. While you are at it, you can also use this opportunity to stockpile on Mega Potions, Demondrugs, and Armorskins.
Building Fire and Dragon Artian Weapons

Gogmazios is an Elder Dragon with two clear weaknesses: Fire and Dragon elements. Similar to its hunt in Monster Hunter 4: Ultimate, Gogmazios takes increased damage from Fire and Dragon weapons. It is advisable to bring two weapons with both elements to your Seikret, so you can swap seamlessly with a press of the right D-Pad button.
Additionally, players should craft their best Fire and Dragon builds, along with other elemental boosting effects to maximize damage.
The ideal approach, according to Capcom and the entire community, is to build Artian Weapons. These are the game’s highest-damage-dealing weapons and can then be upgraded using materials from Gogmazios after the hunt. Alternatively, players can also craft elemental weapons from a monster’s weapon tree, such as Arkveld for Dragon and Rathalos for Fire.
Upgrading Armor to Max Level

Don’t just go on the Gogmazios raid expecting it to be a cakewalk. You will likely get one-shotted. To maximize your defense and alleviate the risk of carting, use Armor Spheres to enhance your armor’s level. Upgrading armor costs a significant amount of Zenny, just make sure you are committed before spending all your hard-earned cash on it.
If you’re low on Armor Spheres, a new event quest coming to Title Update 4 makes grinding them much easier.
It’s also worth noting that fire-resistant armor is ideal for this raid. Gogmazios is an Elder Dragon that can kill you with its death ray. Armor sets like Kut-Ku, Nu Udra, and Quematrice offer additional fire resistance. Adding Fire-resistant Decos and Fire Charm talismans to your build helps.
Find a Competent Team of Hunters

If you do not want to relive the days of Savage Omega Planetes, find a competent party of hunters. It can be the friends you have been playing with since launch, or someone with better gamesense compared to a random player who carts for no reason.
Bringing AI-controlled support hunters like Fabius and Olivia can hypothetically help you, but damage numbers are far from ideal, considering they don’t bring elemental weapons.
Once you have everything done, you only need to wait for Title Update 4 to drop. No one knows what Gogmazios’ movesets will be, but we do know that this Elder Dragon is not going down without a fight.
