- Quick Answer: Breaking down the FITS system in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, detailing how it impacts character customization and gameplay.
The big reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest definitely stole the show, jam-packed with announcements that included Capcom's newest Resident Evil and Tifa joining Street Fighter 6.
A big reason for Square Enix's silence as of late was that they clearly wanted to wait until almost everything was in place before a proper unveiling of Revelation. So rather than dripfeed information and teasers, there was a lot to dissect from our first look at the game, including a new Class system called FITS.
FITS, an acronym for function integrated tactical suitware (clever, Square), will work similarly to Jobs in previous Final Fantasy games, Square Enix has confirmed via a press release. They will supplement the equipment and materials you have for each character with additional movesets.
From the gameplay reveal trailer, it looks like the default FITS style for every party member will be called Freelancer. Then, we could spot Cloud's Warrior and Tifa's Black Mage FITS. We did see Barret and Cait Sith's different looks as well, but beyond a quick cinematic glimpse at them, we don't have information on their names.

Later, following SFG, director Naoki Hamaguchi dropped by popular content creator Maximilian Dood's stream, confirming each character will have four different FITS.
During the interview, Hamaguchi stated that the idea behind the FITS system is that players can break the mold of each character's archetype, using Cloud as an example, who can be turned into a Black Mage with Warrior traits.
Of course, having actual visual cosmetics that directly impact gameplay is also a really cool touch. Hopefully, we can get a demo in the coming months to test out how the gameplay feels ahead of release.
Speaking of which, Final Fantasy VII Revelation is coming out in Spring 2027 on all major modern platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch 2.
