Shinobi vs Dr. Eggman

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance has been a major talking point with gamers since it's the return of this classic SEGA series. The fact that it also has some beautiful art helps, and it should be a good companion game to Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound. Looks like the folks at SEGA want people to lean towards their sidescrolling ninja game, announcing that Dr. Eggman will be a guest boss.

Anyone who has ever wanted to slice Dr. Eggman will be able to do so soon, as Dr. Robotnik himself will be one of three SEGA villains coming to the game. Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog and two more baddies are coming to this new SHINOBI title as part of the SEGA Villains Stage DLC.

Fans will be able to buy the DLC separately in 2026, as SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance launches in August 29, 2025. Fans can immediately buy the DLC as part of the game’s Digital Deluxe Edition. No gameplay starring Dr. Eggman was shown off, so fans will have to wait a bit before seeing this iconic villain get stabbed. It will be interesting to see if this light nudge from SEGA will be enough to get even more hype for this game.

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance SEGA Villains DLC

No clues for the other two villains were shown, though they will supposedly be classic SEGA bad guys. Even the silhouettes in this teaser image don’t reveal much, just showing some glowy eyes and not much else. Luckily, SEGA has a ton of classic villains they can use in this DLC, though it would be hilarious seeing someone from Yakuza or Persona added as the villains.

SHINOBI: Art of Vengeance might not be a shoot-em-up with shurikens anymore, but there’s still a lot to like about this beautiful side-scrolling slasher. The game comes out on August 29, 2025, while the SEGA Villains DLC stage is scheduled for 2026. Expect this game to sell out quickly with retro and indie fans, given how gorgeous those visuals are.
