Dead by Daylight just had one of the most disastrous streams in the history of gaming after hackers hijacked the special Dead by Daylight x Walking Dead collaboration event featuring celebrity Chandler Riggs, who plays Carl Grimes in the hit zombie TV series.

The showcase was meant to highlight two The Walking Dead characters, mainly Rick and Michonne, who are finally joining the Dead by Daylight universe. The stream would be joined by popular content creators like Otzdarva playing alongside Chandler in a Twitch livestream.

Unfortunately, the event turned into a complete mess. Cheaters flooded the lobby, overloading the servers and affecting both Chandler Riggs’ and other streamers’ gameplay. The result was a laggy, glitch-filled experience. Behaviour Interactive, the developer of Dead by Daylight, went into full panic mode trying to keep the stream running, but by the time they acted, it was too late to remove the hackers who were DDoS’ing the servers.

Even Dead by Daylight’s top streamer, Otzdarva, tried offering suggestions to mitigate the server problems, directly calling out Behaviour’s technical team. His efforts went unanswered. The issues piled up until the livestream was forced into a “technical pause” for about 10 minutes. When it resumed, no one was playing the game anymore — instead, BHVR’s community manager sat down with Chandler Riggs for an impromptu interview. The stream continued for an awkward hour.

Fans and players had already been aware of these problems for months. In recent weeks, Dead by Daylight’s servers have been plagued by constant DDoS attacks, making the game nearly unplayable with frequent lag spikes. Notable creators from the community had warned BHVR that these issues could ruin The Walking Dead collaboration stream. Unfortunately, those warnings were ignored.

It wasn’t until yesterday’s event with Chandler Riggs that BHVR realized how severe the situation was. The result was an uncomfortable livestream that damaged the game’s reputation within its own community.

Behaviour issues an apology.

The good news is BHVR issued an apology to the streamers, the fans, and especially to Chandler Riggs, who remained a great sport despite the technical chaos. Still, many felt the apology came too late, as the disaster could have been prevented.

Fans are willing to accept BHVR’s apology, but they want the development team to finally address the underlying issues so that something like this never happens again.
