The New York Comic Con had a shocking surprise for fighting game and Avatar fans, as the brand-new Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game was revealed at the event.

Avatar Legends is a 1v1 fighter with hand-drawn animations where players will be able to duke it out as characters from various eras of the show, including Aang, Korra, Katara, Toph, and more.

The game is being developed and published by a brand-new studio called Gameplay Group International. Their focus is on reviving canceled games, with Avatar being among their first projects.

Late in 2024, developer Maximum Entertainment revealed in a financial report that it had canceled the Avatar fighting game project, with Gameplay Group likely picking up on what had been worked on to continue development.

The game, as mentioned, will feature very slick hand-drawn animations, and it already looks polished to a tee, with very eye-popping visuals and cool-looking combos shown in the gameplay trailer. Something the likes of Hunter x Hunter Nen Impact severely lacked.

According to the developers, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is slated for a Summer 2026 release. It'll launch on PC (via Steam), Xbox Series S/X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will include a proprietary version of rollback netcode as well as crossplay.

Little is known about what kind of modes the game will boast, but expect (hopefully) things like a story-driven arcade mode, essentials like training mode, and competent online matchmaking.
