- Quick Answer: Modern Warfare 4 features a dual-track Prestige system offering Classic (re-locks gear for XP boosts and skins) or Regular (retains unlocks) pathways across 10 Prestige levels and Prestige Master.
The Prestige System has returned for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, but this time, it comes with a twist.
Infinity Ward has done their best with each installment to add something new to the Prestige system, but this year, they've introduced a major new addition. It's the perfect way to appease both newbies and seasoned players, as it leans into different playstyles.
Wondering what the Prestige system looks like in MW4? Let me break it down for you.
How Does Prestige Work in Call of Duty: MW4?
If you're new to Call of Duty, you've likely never heard of the Prestige system. In most COD games, Prestige is an optional post-game progression system that resets your soldier rank to Level 1.

In exchange for resetting your level, you can get exclusive cosmetic rewards, emblems, and status symbols. In Modern Warfare 4, you need to hit player Level 55 to start your Prestige journey. Once you reach Level 55, you'll be given a choice between two different Prestige paths: Classic and Regular.
Classic vs. Regular Prestige in MW4
If you recently played Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7, then you're already familiar with Classic Prestige. If you choose this one, you'll be reset back to Level 1, and all of your weapons, perks, and create-a-class unlocks will be re-locked. In exchange, you get a permanent 20% XP boost, a Permanent Unlock Token, and Classic-themed blueprints or operator skins.

If you opt for Regular, you'll be reset back to Level 1, but you'll be able to keep all of your Multiplayer and Warzone unlocks. While it's a more flexible progression path, you won't be able to claim the Classic-themed blueprints or operator skins.
There are 10 Prestige Levels in total, and each Prestige Track offers a new reward when you unlock each level. Both Classic and Regular Prestige share the same reward track, but as mentioned, Regular Prestige won't receive Classic-exclusive items. This includes Prime variants of cosmetics. However, there's an equal chance to unlock new loading screens, weapon charms, and decals.
How Prestige Master Works in Modern Warfare 4
After completing all 10 Prestige Levels, you'll enter the Prestige Masters Club. This means your level won't reset once you reach Level 55. Instead, you'll try to climb the ranks and reach Level 100 to become the Prestige Legend.

- Prestige Master Level 90: “Master Renegade” Han 86 Assault Rifle Blueprint
Once you surpass Level 100, you'll receive a prestige emblem pack every 100 levels.
