In their post, they claimed that Destiny 2 fell short of expectations in recent years. With Destiny 2's final content update now out and future projects still in incubation, they've chosen to lay off some people. They claimed they "unfortunately could not continue operating" at their previous employee size.

Bungie claimed the decision was made to keep the company in its best position for now and for the future. However, they acknowledged that terminating their employees will greatly affect people's lives, and apologized for it.
