Gearbox has announced that the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Borderlands 4 has been delayed. The port will now launch at an unspecified date after being originally slated to launch this October 3. The developers are hoping the new date coincides with the implementation of cross-save functionality.
Announced via social media, the official Borderlands X account (formerly known as Twitter) stated that the Switch 2 version of the game “needs additional development and polish time to do that.” Unsurprisingly so, considering that, while Borderlands 4 is being praised for being a solid entry in the long-standing series, performance has been woeful, whether you’re playing on PC or console, regardless of what Randy Pitchford would have you believe.
“Greetings, Vault Hunters - We need to share that the release of Borderlands 4 on Nintendo Switch 2 is being delayed. We do not take this decision lightly, but are committed to ensuring we deliver the best possible experience to our fans, and the game needs additional development and polish time to do that. Our hope is to also better align this release with the addition of cross saves, which we are working on and recognize is very important. We will update you all on the new release timing once we’ve fully adjusted our plans,” the post states.
Furthermore, Gearbox explained that all pre-orders of the game on Switch 2 will be automatically cancelled and refunded. Users can do so manually, but every purchase will be reverted automatically on September 26.
