  • Quick Answer: Players have found a familiar animation in the Gundam collaboration items coming to Apex Legends.

A collaboration with Gundam, the popular Japanese franchise, is coming to Apex Legends players, adding multiple new cosmetics and other content. However, the excitement didn't last long, as players discovered what looks to be a recycled animation in the cosmetics.

The event introduces two new mythics into the game: the Epyon Heat Rod and Beam Saber. The latter is the cosmetic in question, which represents the standard weapon of choice in the Gundam universe.

Its inspect animation looks almost exactly as the inspect animation for the Serpent's Sting universal heirloom, which was released in September 2024. The following post from leaker HYPERMYSTx shows a side-to-side comparison of both mythics' animations, and it's difficult to tell the difference, with the Beam Saber's animation being a bit shorter than the other.

This is one of the event's most exclusive cosmetics, as players can only obtain it with mighty luck through the event packs or by purchasing all the event's cosmetics, which will account for a great sum of money.

Some users have started complaining online, expressing things like "$300 accessory item in a free game and they couldn't even bother to give it unique animations..."

At the time of writing, neither Respawn nor EA has acknowledged or said anything about this, but it's clear that recycling was used in the process.

The collaboration is set to hit the game on Tuesday, March 10, with the content going live at 1:00 AM PT (6:00 PM GMT) on all platforms. On top of these cosmetics, players will be able to earn new skins based on the franchise's mobile suits and more.
