The core “pick three perks” system is still in place, but Treyarch has refined it for better synergy and fairer gameplay.
Perks come in three forms: Offense, Stealth, and Support, and each has its own color marker.
Matching perk colors activates a complete Combat Specialty, whereas combining different colors creates hybrid specialties with lighter but more adaptable effects.
With the launch, there are more perks than before (27 vs. 21), and a handful have shifted their category or slot assignment.
Existing players will feel right at home with the mechanics, but there are new tactical twists to explore.
Slot 1
- Gung Ho – Provides the ability to shoot mid-sprint and improves movement speed during reloads or equipment use.
- Dexterity – Reduced weapon motion and full ADS on slides, dives, and wall jumps. Take less fall damage.
- Lightweight – Increases movement speed and extends how far you can jump, slide, and dive, with faster recovery afterward.
- Cold-Blooded – Undetectable by AI targeting and thermal optics. Player-controlled Scorestreaks don’t highlight you.
- Ghost – Undetectable by enemy Scout Pulse and UAV when moving, planting, defusing, or controlling Scorestreaks.
- Ninja – Move more quietly for better stealth.
- Tech Mask – Resistance to enemy flash, concussion, and gas. You cannot be EMPed or hacked.
- Flak Jacket – Reduces incoming explosive and fire damage.
- Shadow – Undetectable by enemy traps and mines.
What makes Slot 1 interesting at launch is how many “movement” or “anti-detect” perks reside here, making your early game and repositioning stronger than ever.
Slot 2
- Scavenger – Resupply ammo and equipment from eliminated enemies.
- Assassin – Enemies on a kill streak get a unique minimap marker and drop Bounty Packs when eliminated. Pick up the packs for more score.
- Close Shave – Automatically use your dedicated melee attack when you perform a weapon butt attack.
- Hunter’s Instinct – Killing an enemy marks the direction of the next closest enemy on your minimap.
- Vigilance – Displays a HUD icon whenever you appear on hostile minimaps. Immune to CUAV, Scrambler, and Vendetta.
- Blast Link – Your explosive damage marks enemies on your minimap. Grants this benefit to all allies. Earn Score when they deal explosive damage.
- Engineer – See enemy equipment and Scorestreaks through walls and Scorestreaks on the minimap. Aim at them to see the target information.
- Fast Hands – Reload and swap weapons faster. Extend fuses when throwing back grenades.
- Gearhead – Grants two Field Upgrade uses along with booby-trapped Care Packages.
This slot is particularly interesting in Black Ops 7 because a few perks have merged (for example, effects that were separate before now live in one perk), and the slot reassignments mean some tactics from the beta have to be adjusted at launch.
Slot 3
- Tac Sprinter – Enables Tactical Sprint but reduces your normal sprint speed.
- Bankroll – Start each life with a +150 score toward Scorestreaks.
- Bruiser – Melee eliminations and finishing moves replenish health and earn extra score.
- Looper – Gain the ability to re-earn Scorestreaks in the same life.
- Vendetta – On respawn, mark your killer’s last known position for a short duration. Get a bonus score for eliminating that enemy.
- Tracker – Track nearby enemies through minimap indicators, visible footsteps, and automatic pings while aiming down sights.
- Quartermaster – Recharge Equipment uses over time.
- Charge Link – Boosts Field Upgrade recharge rate for everyone close by and gives score when allies trigger their Field Upgrades.
- Guardian – Faster healing while capturing and holding objectives. Revive downed teammates faster.
