- Quick Answer: Nintendo is using the Switch 2's power to launch cinematic remakes of N64 and GameCube classics, starting with Star Fox on June 25, 2026.
It is an exciting time to be a Switch 2 owner, especially now that the console will be getting a Star Fox game. While it isn't entirely new, given that it's a remake of the original Star Fox 64, it looks absolutely stunning, and the changes made to modernize certain aspects seem to make it worth getting.
It's certainly great news, especially for fans of the space-fighting team of animals, but it also raises a particular question: what other games should be given that treatment? Nintendo has a large library to choose from, and they shouldn't have any trouble deciding. However, there are some options I believe deserve it more than the rest!
1. Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Much like Star Fox, this is another game from the Nintendo 64, and it has so much potential to be something amazing if it were remade for the Switch 2. It already looked good back then, but giving it a makeover with better graphics could make it appear even better than modern Kirby titles.
This is especially true when you consider what it could do to change the power-ups. They were the best part of Kirby 64, and the remake could make them even better with a visual update. Changes could also be made to make the game even more enjoyable, such as harder bosses or expanding its multiplayer minigames, which is why this game shouldn't be ignored.
2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

While this game received the remake treatment along with its predecessor, Ocarina of Time, on the 3DS, the latter is considered by many to be better and more faithful compared to the former. The remade Majora's Mask was still good, but it could have been so much more.
This is why it deserves a new and more polished version for the Switch 2. Some of the positive changes made for the 3DS version can easily be carried over, and the problems that negatively affected the overall experience can be resolved. Also, with how unique the atmosphere of Termina is compared to Hyrule, it would be nice to see it with even more detail than ever before.
3. Golden Sun

This is one of the RPGs that Nintendo hasn't really touched for a while, but fans still remember. Golden Sun is responsible for giving many people a taste of the genre, and it did its job incredibly with a great story, vast open world, beautiful music, and combat mechanics that were engaging and visually stunning for a GBA title.
If all that were to be remade and even go the 3D route, there is no doubt that it would be very well received, and many fans would look forward to it. A Golden Sun for the Switch 2 could also help repopularize the series, which is a good thing, as it means a potential new game for the console that can benefit Nintendo and the fans.
4. F-Zero GX

There hasn't been an F-Zero game in a very long time, so if we can't get a new one, then the next best thing would be a remake. Out of all the options, the prime candidate would have to be the GameCube's F-Zero GX.
It was the one that was remembered by many, given the thrill of its incredibly fast-paced racing and its unique cast of characters. Fans would easily welcome a remake of F-Zero GX on the Switch 2, and changes like the addition of more pilots or being able to use gyro controls to race can help make the already great game even better.
5. Pokemon Black and White 1 and 2

This is the only Pokemon game in the franchise that has its own sequel, and one that was criminally underrated for its time. The first four games have already received their remake treatment, so it's only natural that the fifth generation of games get one as well.
If they had a Switch 2 version, the world of Unova could be even more fleshed out, and we'd get cities and towns worth running around in more than any of the more modern entries. That, and it could bring back and make great improvements to things like the World Tournament, rotation battles, and PokeStar Studios, giving the new generation of fans a chance to try what they missed out on.
6. Mother 3

While you could say that Earthbound deserves the remake treatment more, I would argue that Mother 3 is in dire need of it. One, it never got an official English translation, which means the only way to enjoy it is by playing it in Japanese or through fan-made projects.
The other is that it has a much more impactful story and a world that's more memorable than Earthbound, making it a better candidate. And if a remake makes the right changes, such as removing the inventory limit and adding in a fast travel option, then there's no doubt it would do well on the Switch 2.
While there's no telling if Nintendo will do even more remakes in the future, they at least have a wide library to choose from. Still, out of all the options, these games are the ones due for another chance in the spotlight.
