Apex Legends Cross-Progression Could Be Coming According To Leaks

Apex Legends Season 6 is in full flow, and fans are undoubtedly looking towards the long-awaited update that will introduce cross-play to the game.

Of course, being able to log in and party up with friends on different platforms is going to be huge, but wouldn't it be great to take your progress with you?

According to new leaks, cross-progression could be coming to the game in the next few months.

Apex Legends Could Be Getting Cross-Progression

Apex Legends dataminer Shrugtal has uploaded a new video that looks into the upcoming crossplay update and clubs, while also noting that some code seems to suggest cross-progression is coming, too.

Crossplay video is up. Lots of code to sift through! https://t.co/bOkwyowPHZ

Early in the game's life, the game's then lead-producer Drew McCoy noted that the feature was "impossible" due to the way the game's "systems were set up early on", but new backend code suggests either Respawn has found a way, or that they're rebuilt those same underlying systems.

The code in question, "proxy/commerce_gateway/valuetransfer/transfer?personaId=%s&platform=%s&accountId=%s_%s&offferId=%s&locale=%s" could suggest players' cosmetic items like skins and the like could be transferable between platforms at some stage.

This code, of course, could be "dead" and part of an update that never came to be, but that seems unlikely, with Shrugtal suggesting this is currently in testing.

There's also the possibility that it could end up being a "one-time-only" deal, but we're hoping it's something closer to Fortnite, Rocket League or Destiny's cross-progression.

Passionate

Back in October of 2020, Reddit user HkySk8r187 who is the Game Director over at Respawn posted the following comment in this thread when talking about cross-progression.

It's something we are very passionate about, and we're looking at our options available. Much harder post-launch since users may have multiple accounts to merge or use. Easier with Steam because it's at launch. We'll give an update when we have something to talk about.

So, perhaps this will come with the release of the new season in Q1 2021!
