Atlus recently teased more characters and a mysterious organization in Shin Megami Tensei 5, and now we know a bit more about both thanks to a Game Informer exclusive.

The new Shin Megami Tensei 5 characters are:

  • Ichiro Dazai - class clown and streamer, loyal but "bumbling"
  • Yuzuru Atsuta - responsible, upright, and assertive
  • Tao Isonokami - kind, also a member of Bethel
  • Hayao Koshimizu - prime minister of Japan and Bethel representative

When the protagonist enters another Tokyo, the real, whole Tokyo remains in its own dimension. The ruined world is called Da'at, and for the time being, its demons are unable to reach Tokyo.

They'll eventually breach the dimensional barrier, though, and that's where Bethel comes in.

The Bethel organization is dedicated to containing the demon threat. The hero merges with another being to become a Nahobino, but Koshimizu gives Dazai and Atsuta the power to use Bethel's demon control program.

They, too, can summon and negotiate with demons, and Game Informer's first look showed a scene where the demons break into Tokyo and invade the player's school.

On a different note, Shin Megami Tensei 5 will introduce new skills as well:

  • Humble Blessing
  • Maziobarion
  • Sanguine Drain

That's in addition to special moves like Limit Breaks that each character can use as part of the Magatsuhi Skill system.

While the story was a Game Informer exclusive, you can check out the footage yourself in an Atlus Japan video with English subtitles introducing each character.

Shin Megami Tensei 5 releases November 11 for Nintendo Switch.
