How To Unlock Pillars and Island Counters

To unlock pillars and island counters, you will need to have completed 15 island homes and all facilities up until that point. If you haven't completed the school, café, and restaurant then you may not be able to access these unlocks until you do. Once you have completed everything you need to complete, Niko will have taught himself to make pillars and island counters. He will take you to the school where he will teach you about the two items and once the lesson ends, you will be able to use them in your next vacation home.

What Are Pillars and Island Counters?

Pillars are a structural/decorative item that you can use in facilities and vacation homes. They can be used on their own to break up large and open spaces. Also, you can place them at the ends of partition walls to create smooth right-angled walls that connect seamlessly.

Island Counters come in two sizes and they can be used in a similar way partition walls or tables. You can use them to separate spaces without completely closing the room in. Also, you can use island counters to hold items or objects like flowers and photos.

How To Use Pillars

To use a pillar, you will need to be in decorating mode in either a facility or vacation home. Press down on your directional pad to enter this mode. (You can put pillars down in the normal in-room mode but it can be trickier to get them exactly where you want them).

Once you are here, press right on your directional pad to open up the furniture menu. At the top of this menu, you should see a lot of little symbols. Press L or R to skip along to the symbol of three little dots. This should be labelled as "other". This will bring up a smaller menu that displays random items and the pillar should be one of the items at the top.

You can hover your cursor over this and press X to see the different customisation options for the item. Once you are happy with how it looks, click on it to insert it into the room. You can now move it around and place it down like you would with any furniture.

If you're using it to end a partition wall or make a right angle then simply place it right at the end of the wall. To make a right-angle, use A to rotate the next partition wall and connect it to the pillar.

Island counters can connect together in a row but there will be a gap if you try to make a corner. All you need to do now is place down as many as you want in the room and move them to where you want them.
