Animal Crossing: New Horizons has plenty of ways to keep you engaged and loving life on your island. Even as you live out your dreamy island life as the Resident Representative, you can complete many activities that you'd do in real life too. While many of these tasks are things that you might not do too often, a few are all too relatable, such as sleeping.

Like any other person, your character in Animal Crossing must sleep. This is done for multiple reasons, but for the most part, you want to keep your character's energy levels high. Sleeping in New Horizons is simple but can be tricky to do at first if you don't know what you're doing. In this guide, we will explain how to sleep in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

At the end of the introduction sequence, when beginning your game, your first encounter with sleeping will come from Tom Nook, who tells you to sleep to start your island life. You’ll be told to sleep in your tent, but how is this done?

  1. Head over and enter your tent, where you’ll realize there’s no bed or anything to interact with.
  2. If you open your inventory and hit "ZL", you can scroll over to the leaf, indicating a piece of furniture. This is a cot (a camp bed), which will be your bed until you upgrade to something more luxurious.
  3. Select the piece of furniture and place it anywhere in your tent.
  4. Walk toward the cot and hop on, where you’ll be prompted to go to sleep for the day. When you select the option to sleep, the screen will fade out, and you'll wake up on a new day.

This act of sleeping only happens once. Following this, hopping into bed won't forward you to a new day. Yet, if your character deserves a little rest, jumping into bed gives them that. Although, this doesn't count as sleeping and will not change anything in-game or progress time.

And there you have it; sleeping is one of the easier things to do in Animal Crossing: New Horizons once you know what to do.
