What Could Animal Crossing New Horizons 2.0 Bring?

When is Animal Crossing New Horizons 2.0 update releasing? New Horizons' first major update released in 2020 around mid-April, and fans are expecting news of a 2.0 update in the near future, though there’s no word when that might be or what it will include.

However, there is plenty of room for speculation about what the New Horizons 2.0 update could add. After all, there's still several features missing that have, up to now, been staple inclusions for the series.

When is Animal Crossing New Horizons 2.0 Update Out?

Many assumed the new update would release in April to mark the game’s one-year anniversary, but that's come and gone.

Perhaps in response to fan criticism about a lack of meaningful updates, Nintendo confirmed this July that "more free content" is releasing later this year, but details are being kept under wraps for now.

There’s no telling how COVID-19 delays could have affected Nintendo’s plans for new Animal Crossing content, so it could drop at any time.

What Will Animal Crossing New Horizons 2.0 Add?

Animal Crossing dataminer Ninji uncovered multiple unused files in 2020 pertaining to future updates. Farming and vegetables were among those files. Nintendo added pumpkin planting to the game for Halloween 2020, but other files showed different veggies were in store as well.

Ninji also found references to two new museum additions, including a cafe and Gyroid section, plus options for giving Redd items, and the rather more mysterious “Office” file. Further evidence of Brewster's existence in New Horizons was recently uncovered within the Version 1.11.0 update, too.

A good portion of this data, such as flower bushes, Kicks’ store, and more, ended up in the game last year, so there’s reason to believe the rest of it is planned for inclusion too — at some point. As for what else might make its way to our Animal Crossing shores, we still haven’t seen Katrina, Wendell, or Dr. Shrunk in any capacity.

Animal Crossing 20th Anniversary

All the above is just what we know could come to the New Horizons 2.0 update. 2021 marks the series’ 20th anniversary, however, so Nintendo could have additional celebrations and new content planned that we know nothing about yet.

Will New Horizons 2.0 Be The Last Animal Crossing Update?

Not at all. In 2020, Nintendo of Japan president Shuntaro Furukawa said he wanted to keep adding in-game events and reasons for players to continue enjoying Animal Crossing for a long time.
