InXile Entertainment unveiled new Wasteland 3 DLC, Cult of the Holy Detonation, during Xbox's Gamescom 2021 showcase.
The Wasteland 3 DLC is more than just a new campaign, InXile said. It adds a number of new mechanics designed to make Wasteland 3 feel fresh again for returning fans.
It's also geared toward new fans, as InXile is even putting together an ultimate edition of sorts that features all current DLC and the upcoming Holy Detonation.
Wasteland 3 DLC | Cult of the Holy Detonation Release Date
Cult of the Holy Detonation releases October 5 for PC, PlayStation 4 and PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S for $6.99 or as part of the Expansion Pass.
Wasteland 3 Colorado Collection releases the same day on all platforms and will cost $59.99.
Wasteland 3 DLC | Cult of the Holy Detonation Story
Two warring cults clash over who has the rights to their deity, which is a nuclear science experiment from days gone by. Your goal is deciding which of the cults should reign supreme, and as ever in Wasteland 3, your choices have far-reaching consequences.
You'll meet and work alongside new units and get to know terrifying cultists as you make your decisions - and try to stay un-radiated in the process.
Wasteland 3 DLC | What's New in Cult of the Holy Detonation
The new DLC features two new additions to Wasteland 3. One is "dungeon-crawler style" exploration where you explore the facilities under Cheyenne Mountain. InXile promised no shortage of "mysteries" and secrets to uncover, but was coy about what those might actually be like.
The second big change is in combat. Some fights and boss battles introduce objective-based combat, where you'll have set requirements to fulfill before the fighting ends.
Many of these involve breaking up your squad and sending rangers on individual missions, and InXile promised it will be a big change for the series.
