Resident Evil 4 Remake coming in 2022 according to new report

Resident Evil 3 Remake may have only just launched, and Resident Evil 8 is allegedly taking a left turn with witches and goodness knows what else, but Capcom is allegedly pushing forward with a remake of Resident Evil 4 for release in 2022.

The news comes from VGC, and the remake is allegedly being developed by M-Two, a studio founded by Tatsuya Minami, former head of Platinum Games.

In fact, since the story broke, noted leaker Dusk Golem has corroborated the original report and stated that Resident Evil 4 has a larger development team than both Resident Evil 2 and 3 Remakes, as well as support from the Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 development teams. Resident Evil has been on an upward trend in recent years. While Resident Evil 6 was poorly received by fans and critics alike, the franchise's first foray into first-person, Resident Evil 7, was hailed as a breath of fresh air for the survival horror franchise.

Meanwhile, 2019's Resident Evil 2 Remake was a Game of the Year nominee, while the most recent Resident Evil 3: Remake was not quite as well-received by the gaming press but fans seem to be fairly happy with it.

Resident Evil 4 was originally a GameCube exclusive that released in 2005 before being ported to almost every system since. It tells the story of Resident Evil 2's Leon Kennedy as he attempts to rescue the US President's daughter in rural Europe.

Widely regarded as one of the franchise's best entries, it looks as though Capcom is moving to Resident Evil 4 and skipping over 2000's Resident Evil: Code Veronica – although Dusk Golem did note that there is the potential for that game to get the remake treatment after Resident Evil 8 ships.
