Pokémon Sword and Shield: How to unlock Ash’s Pikachu

Eight special “hat Pikachus” are on their way to Sword and Shield — each wearing a different one of Ash’s hats from the animated films and series throughout Pokémon history. The Pokémon Company announced the promotion during a livestream on Tuesday morning.

“To celebrate the launch of The Crown Tundra, there will be a special in-game event for players to receive eight different Pikachu for their teams,” the Pokémon Company said in a new blog post.

“Beginning Tuesday, September 29, and up through Friday, October 30, Trainers can find special passwords in various places, including the Play Pokémon Twitter feed and the Pokémon Trainer Club email newsletter.”

How to get all eight ‘hat Pikachus’

Each of Ash’s Pikachus can be unlocked with a unique passcode, and the game’s developers are going to be revealing them periodically during the leadup to the October 22 launch of The Crown Tundra, the second DLC for the Sword and Shield expansion pass.

The password for the original cap is P1KACHUGET.

To get Pikachu with the “partner” cap, enter 1CH00SEY0U.

Here’s what you need to do for each “hat Pikachu”:

  • Launch your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game
  • Select Mystery Gift in the X menu
  • Select Get a Mystery Gift
  • Select Get with Code/Password to connect to the internet
  • Enter your password
  • Check your party or Pokémon Boxes
  • Save your game

“Each of these passwords must be entered into your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game by November 30, 2020, at 6:59 a.m. PST,” the website warns.
