Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, developed by Game Freak, are the next games in the Pokémon series! Recently announced in the Pokémon presentation, the new duo of games will take you to a new Region, and will be available in late 2022.

So far, we have been given brief glimpses of the Region that the games are set in. From bustling town centers to a variety of wild environments, there seem to be plenty of places to find Pokémon. Once you decide which starter Pokémon you want to team up with (Sprigatito, Fuecoco, or Quaxly), a brand new adventure awaits you. However, there's a big question surrounding just how much of the new Region you can explore.

In this guide, we're going to let you know if Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are open-world.

Are Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Open-World?

Yes, the games are set in an open-world environment which has been confirmed on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Website. The website describes the Region layout with "Towns blend seamlessly into the wilderness with no borders", which gives a hint as to how big the Region is, and how much you'll be able to explore.

So far, we know that you'll be able to find Pokémon almost everywhere in the Region, including up in the sky or out at sea! In the announcement trailer below, we are given a brief glimpse of some of the areas you may be able to visit in the games.

We will update this page as we learn more about the game.
