Breakdown

  • Silent Hill 2 remake's ESRB rating suggests even more violence and sex
  • The game will have a ton of gore, including scenes where characters get impaled
  • A new pole dancing scene was revealed in the ESRB rating, hinting at Maria's backstory

The Silent Hill 2 remake is seemingly getting a release date soon, as the horror game’s ESRB rating has been revealed. It seems that Bloober Team are upping the game’s violence and sex, as the rating teases some dark scenes that will be in the remake.

According to the official ESRB website, some of the game’s violence will include characters getting impaled, suffocated to death with pillows, and more. Horror fans can also expect a ton of gore in the background, including intestines, bloodstains, and organs, which should add to the atmosphere.

It seems Bloober Team is also adding to the sexual themes in Konami’s Silent Hill 2 remake, as there are some scenes here that weren’t in the original. Fans already knew that the evil nurse monsters would be part of this remake, but there’s also a pole dancing scene in a strip club that’s completely brand-new.

Some discussion was had in the Gaming Leaks subreddit, with fans assuming that Maria will be the one doing the suggestive dancing. There were hints that she was a stripper and fans can even spot posters of her in a strip club in Silent Hill 3. While this will probably be for fanservice, this could also dig into Maria’s backstory a bit more, which fans will appreciate.

Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake has been somewhat controversial, as the game’s recent trailer focused too much on combat. Even the devs working for Bloober Team didn’t like that trailer, as it made fans think they missed the point of the original’s horror. We haven’t seen a new trailer since, but there’s always a chance that they focus less on the action after that trailer’s cold reception.

Now that the remake has an ESRB rating, we should be getting a release date for the game soon. Hopefully, this is a remake that respects the original and adds more depth to it, like Capcom’s excellent Resident Evil 2 remake.

Konami and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake is coming to PS5 and PC.
