GTA 6 nearing the end of development should be a good thing, but Rockstar Games is forcing its employees to work in offices again to finish the game. This is being done for “productivity” and “security” reasons, but it results in workers being unenthused about returning to offices.

Bloomberg (via GamesRadar) was able to obtain an email from Jenn Kolbe, the head of Head of Publishing for Rockstar Games, where this mandate was told. The email states that these developers will have to work in Rockstar’s office for regular five-day weeks again to ensure the game’s quality.

"Making these changes now puts us in the best position to deliver the next Grand Theft Auto at the level of quality and polish we know it requires, along with a publishing roadmap that matches the scale and ambition of the game,” Kolbe said in the email.

To the surprise of no one, Rockstar Games employees are not pleased with coming back to offices just to work on GTA 6. We can assume that a lot of the work was done from home, so forcing employees back to offices just for this game must be annoying for the devs.

Because security was mentioned, we can assume that Rockstar Games is requiring their devs to come back so there are no more leaks. Fans will remember how the game’s first trailer was leaked a day before it was supposed to come out, which probably angered the publisher. That isn’t even the biggest leak, as an early build of the game did make its way online last year.

While we understand why Rockstar Games would be paranoid about any more leaks, this might be a bit of an overreaction from the GTA 6 company. Then again, this is a movement that many corporations have been pushing for, so this could quickly become the norm if things keep going this way.
