Ubisoft’s troubled remake of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time is surprisingly still alive. After a years of silence, the remake of the PS2-era classic adventure game has passed a major development milestone.
Originally released in 2003 — the same year as The Simpsons: Hit and Run — the new remake aims to give the classic Prince of Persia adventure a new coat of paint. Originally scheduled to release back in 2020, the game has been revamped over years of extra development.
Whilst celebrating the original game’s 20th anniversary, Ubisoft revealed that new information will be announced for the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake in the very near future. However, the studio hasn’t even shown a single screenshot since the game’s delay.
“As you know, the passionate team at Ubisoft MTL is reimagining this legendary story, and we are glad to announce today that the project has passed an important internal milestone and development is progressing,” Ubisoft revealed. “We look forward to sharing more in the future!”
Fans of the series replied that they are excited to see more of the long-silent remake, as well as being surprised that the game is still in the works instead of being scrapped.
“The wait is killing me but of course would rather it be the best it can be,” one fan replied. “Honestly thought this was cancelled,” said another.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake isn’t the only video game remake suffering from development woes at the time of writing. Infamously, the PlayStation exclusive Star Wars: KOTOR remake is also suffering from development issues, with many claiming the title has been cancelled. However, multiple developers are still working on the Star Wars game.
Ubisoft is also working on another Prince of Persia game. Named Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the new game is a side-scrolling action game inspired by Metroidvania titles. Releasing on January 15, 2024, the action platformer looks like a great new entry in the iconic video game franchise.
There’s still no release date for the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake at the time of publication.
