An all new Battlefield game is in development to succeed Battlefield 2042. After an unsteady few years for the series, the next game in the decades-old FPS series aims to revitalise the franchise and create a solid “future” for Battlefield fans.

Battlefield 2042 Season 7 is officially the last season of content coming to the maligned FPS game. With directors leaving and reports of skeleton crews working on the game, the game is being sunset after a couple years of support.

In a new announcement, EA revealed that a successor is in the works across Battlefield’s multiple studios including main developer DICE and support studios Criterion and Ripple Effect. However, these teams are now joined by a new face: Dead Space remake developer EA Motive.

Known for their work on the Dead Space Remake and Star Wars Squadrons, EA Motive has years of experience with the Frostbite engine that powers the Battlefield series.

“We’re tremendously excited for Motive, as they are bringing their expertise with Frostbite and compelling storytelling to the fold, joining DICE, Criterion, and Ripple Effect in building a Battlefield universe across connected multiplayer experiences and single-player,” EA announced in a press release.

The next Battlefield game has already been in early development for a while following the launch failure of 2042. Early reports claim that the new game will have the series’ best destruction ever, a bold claim for a series that has been praised for its destruction tech. Will we see The Finals level destruction across huge sprawling maps?

As a core competitor to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield has offered a more tactical, large-scale approach to combat. While Warzone may be big, few games manage to capture the balance between casual gunplay and realistic tactical combat that Battlefield does.

There’s no release date for the next Battlefield game or any confirmed platforms. However, we expect the game to launch exclusively on PC and newer consoles switch as the Xbox Series and PS5.
