The new release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been marred with some awful spawns, so much so that maps have been removed from rotation. At the time of writing, some Modern Warfare 3 maps are still unplayable after launch.

A number of Modern Warfare 3 maps that were promised to fans have been absent for days. Quarry, Rundown and Scrapyard have been axed from the game’s Hardpoint playlist, and Karachi has been disabled from Cuttthroat.

According to Activision, Karachi was removed due to an issue “causing a player to spawn alongside enemies”. The other three disabled maps were axed due to “an issue causing unfavourable spawns".

A viral Twitter clip from user Swishem showed off some of the horrific spawn logic in the current version of the game. While the clip starts with the player spawning in front of enemies multiple times, it quickly turns tide with groups of foes spawning in a corner for them to take out over and over again.

Sledgehammer Games has since removed maps from rotation due to the abhorrent spawning issues. While many believed spawns had been fixed since the game’s beta, those fixes only affect a handful of the game’s new skirmishes.

Alongside a horrid list of campaign issues, Modern Warfare 3 is being deemed one of the worst CoD launches in the series’ history. Tied to the awful CoD HQ app, the game is essentially full-priced paid DLC for Modern Warfare 2.

Last week, reports surfaced that Modern Warfare 3 was developed in just 16 months, crunching Sledgehammer Games over the course of development. It was also revealed that the studio wanted to make a follow-up to Advanced Warfare, but were forced onto the Modern Warfare project instead.

While Sledgehammer has denied reports of rushed development for the new CoD sequel, the game is still in an extremely buggy state with mediocre content additions. Compared to the high of last year’s Modern Warfare 2, its follow-up is a sad release.

Modern Warfare 3 is now available to purchase on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series consoles.
